In a totalitarian state, telling the truth must be considered a
revolutionary act.So said George Orwell. I would add "telling the truth in plain English, stripped of jargon, double speak, euphemisms and sophistry is an even greater revolutionary act".By that yardstick, the George of our own day, George Galloway, has lit a fire under the swine posing as Senators, Norm Coleman and Carl Levin, who tried to defame him by linking him to what is called the Oil-for-Food-Scandal, realized that they bit off more than they could chew and recoiled as though they stuck their hands on a hot surface. The searing language Galloway used is completely unfamiliar to these men used to the sedative officialese of Washington. And because the plain English speaking came from a man who was obviously speaking the truth, they realized they had to drop this hot potato and retreated to their private chambers to get healed. In the audience was their darling, Judith Miller, waiting to write some juicy tidbits in the NYT the next day. Because the scripted event did not occur, her halfhearted column appeared buried well inside that august newspaper.

I hope Galloway emboldens many more plainspeaking people on this side of the Atlantic and completely neutralizes the fools and knaves that dominate our airwaves with their drivel spoken in tongues only a bureaucrat or Rumsfeld could love.
