34. Scott Ritter on MS/NBC
I find it interesting that MS/NBC's Tucker Carlson should attempt to brand Scott Ritter with giving aid and comfort to the enemy, purportedly due to Ritter's publishing his contentions of CIA undercover involvement in Iran on Aljazeera's website. Ritter, it should be remembered, was one of the few pundits who got it all right about the absence of WMDs in Iraq during the run-up to the Iraq War. He was branded as a traitor then too. In fact, Ritter served this country's interests honorably as a weapons inspector prior to the Iraq War and as a Marine officer before that. He's hated by the right wingers because he has the courage of his convictions and because he has the disturbing propensity for being correct.

MS/NBC apparently prefers the biased opinions of the likes of Jim Woolsey and David Kay, both of whom were featured on the DSM piece yesterday on Hardball. Woolsey and Kay, it will be recalled, got the WMD issue totally wrong and served as Bush Administration shills for getting us into Iraq. I've never seen any media interview confronting them with their prior erroneous statements.

Sadly, there is no requirement for either truth or accountability on TV cable media. And history is totally forgotten. Apparently, once a "pundit", always a "pundit" -- regardless of whether the "pudint" gets important facts right or gets them wrong.

It's a good thing that Ritter actually got a spot, for his voice, albeit kinda' weird that the bow-tied voice of little god would allow him to speak. Please excuse my intolerance of Mr. bow-tie-little-god,...he earned it. I'll take this moment with Ritter as a step towards "good will".

37. Having the heated debate
may have caused more people to pay closer attention to the segment, than a "reasoned debate" would have. While I sometimes wonder why a man who wears one bow-tie will stop there -- why not wear two? -- I remember in the NY Times book review of Ambassador Wilson's book, Carlson was one of the first conservatives who said he was ashamed he had fallen for the administration's WMD story. Having Ritter on was interesting when considered in that context.

60. Yes, I believe so.
I think people reac to his being a tad bit smug at times. I also think that people assume the role he plays on tv is really him, rather than the product he sells. And I agree that it is a shame that people have to prostitute themselves to be on one of these shows, but they do. The only people who refuse to do that are found on LINK TV and a couple other small stations.

24. Actually, Sean Hannity has yet to deny that he's a pedophile
Some people say he is. I've read it before and I'm very concerned that he hasn't spent an hour on his show straightening this out. I mean if he's NOT, why doesn't he want to clear his name?

If he IS, I want to know because I encourage my children to listen to ALL his segments because he is such a great Murkin, and Patriot. If he's a pedophile, I'll need to let them listen to Rush, who's only a druggie, which I guess I can handle.

You can see my dilemma, right?

Won't you please encourage Sean to come out and set the record straight on his pedophilia.

Thank you and gawd bless Murka.

The US war with Iran has already begun
By Scott Ritter
Monday 20 June 2005, 8:56 Makka Time, 5:56 GMT

Americans, along with the rest of the world, are starting to wake up to the uncomfortable fact that President George Bush not only lied to them about the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq (the ostensible excuse for the March 2003 invasion and occupation of that country by US forces), but also about the very process that led to war.

On 16 October 2002, President Bush told the American people that "I have not ordered the use of force. I hope that the use of force will not become necessary."

We know now that this statement was itself a lie, that the president, by late August 2002, had, in fact, signed off on the 'execute' orders authorising the US military to begin active military operations inside Iraq, and that these orders were being implemented as early as September 2002, when the US Air Force, assisted by the British Royal Air Force, began expanding its bombardment of targets inside and outside the so-called no-fly zone in Iraq.

These operations were designed to degrade Iraqi air defence and command and control capabilities. They also paved the way for the insertion of US Special Operations units, who were conducting strategic reconnaissance, and later direct action, operations against specific targets inside Iraq, prior to the 19 March 2003 commencement of hostilities.

30. Scott Ritter on Iraq, 7/23/02
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 08:33 PM by teach1st
As told by William Pitt:

http://www.truthout.org/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi/22/6730

"The clock is ticking," continued Ritter to the Suffolk gathering, "and it's ticking towards war. And it's going to be a real war. It's going to be a war that will result in the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, of Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians. It's a war that is going to devastate Iraq. It's a war that's going to destroy the credibility of the United States of America."

And then, according to Antonia Zerbisias of the Toronto Star, 9/12/2002:

http://www.commondreams.org/views02/0912-02.htm

First CNN had on its own news chief, Eason Jordan, who had just returned from Baghdad where he was bagging the rights to cover the war. (Imagine the ratings!) He dismissed Ritter with a "Well, Scott Ritter's chameleon-like behaviour has really bewildered a lot of people..." and a "Well, U.S. officials no longer give Scott Ritter much credibility..."

The network followed up with more interviews vilifying Ritter, neither of which cut to the heart of the matter: Why declare war? On what grounds? At what cost? Ritter was characterized as "misguided," "disloyal" and "an apologist for and a defender of Saddam Hussein."

By Monday, professional hairdo Paula Zahn told viewers Ritter had "drunk Saddam Hussein's Kool-Aid."

Over on MSNBC, Curtis & Kuby co-host Curtis Sliwa compared him to "a sock puppet" who "oughta turn in his passport for an Iraqi one." But the nadir came later on CNN when makeup job Kyra Phillips interrogated him, implying that he was being paid by Iraq —and all but calling him a quisling.

Calling Maj. Ritter

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
February 10, 2004

© 2004 David H. Hackworth

Like it or not, Maj. Scott Ritter had it right all along.

Most of the rest of us, from the president to his key advisers, such as Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, Rice, Wolfowitz and Tenet, to the majority of Congress and to most of the talking heads – including the pre-Iraq War NBC analyst David Kay, who reported WMDs (weapons of mass destruction) behind every Iraqi sand dune – blew it big-time when it came down to the awesome arsenal that Saddam had supposedly squirreled away.

Ritter, the United Nations' chief weapons inspector in Iraq until 1998, took us all on – virtually alone, against incredible odds – stating, "Iraq is not a threat to the U.S." and begging the American people to take charge and not "sit back and allow your government to go to war against Iraq ... the facts on the table to back this war up." <more>

Imagine what those ratings would be if all us progressives just turned him off.

Why feed the beast? Better to roast him on the spit of insignificance (I just ate the last of my Dennis Miller leftovers :))
