DeLay compares Iraq to Houston Texas
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3235606

"You know, if Houston, Texas, was held to the same standard as Iraq is held to, nobody'd go to Houston, because all this reporting coming out of the local press in Houston is violence, murders, robberies, deaths on the highways," DeLay said.

WASHINGTON - When House Majority Leader Tom DeLay sat down with reporters on Tuesday on Capitol Hill, he was asked to assess President Bush's campaign in Iraq and to respond to criticism that the military mission is not going well and the White House needs to develop an exit strategy.

DeLay offered this response: "These things take time and they take a long time, and some people get weary of the constant barrage that we see in the media.

"You know, if Houston, Texas, was held to the same standard as Iraq is held to, nobody'd go to Houston, because all this reporting coming out of the local press in Houston is violence, murders, robberies, deaths on the highways," DeLay said.

"And if you took that as the image of what is a great city that has an incredible quality of life and an incredible economy, it's amazing to me. Go to Iraq. And see what's actually happening there.

"Everybody that comes from Iraq is amazed at the difference of what they see on the ground and what they see on the television set."

3. Well, that's a relief!
Shit, I was worried about Iraq until I read this. Because if Tom Delay says it's OK, and Iraq is as safe as Houston, then goddamn, there's no reason for us to worry. So everyone stop worrying. OK?

5. Let's Offer The Hammer A Challenge
$1,000,000 of Jack Abrahamoff's dollars if he can do the following:

Drive from downtown Houston to the airport...then get on a plane, get off in Baghdad and try driving from the airport to downtown...no escort and let everyone there know you're coming.

It's this kind of denial that made the Tet Offensive such a shock for many. They'd been lulled into the war was "winnable" and we were winning, then bam. I fear we're headed for another rude awakening like that. The good news is, the backlash will take the Hammer and drum his sorry ass out, if he isn't in jail first.

10. So if we put his corrupt fat ass on a transport plane with a one-way
ticket that'll be just fine, he'll feel right at home.

No armor, no nothing. Just the every draft-age kid in him damn family and him. And remember, draft age has a new meaning now. They've expanded it. Maybe we can get the whole family over there.

<snip>"And if you took that as the image of what is a great city that has an incredible quality of life and an incredible economy, it's amazing to me. Go to Iraq. And see what's actually happening there."
<snip>

Time to get these bastards to put their asses where there big shot mouths are.

11. "Everybody that comes from Iraq"?
You mean he hasn't made a fact finding visit?

Houston has its problems but we're better off than Iraq. You might get creamed by an SUV on your way to the airport, but you won't be shot "accidentally" by US troops.

Once again, I'll provide a link to "Juanita's: The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon." News & snarky comments about DeLay & other Republican idiots from the wilds of Fort Bend County.

12. The only way Iraq and Houston are alike is that both are now run
by corrupt oil interests with little regard for the population as a whole.

14. Where's the Outrage???
He's comparing American citizens of Houston with those "cold-blooded killer" insurgents in Iraq.

HOW DARE HE COMPARE AMERICANS TO TERRORIST!!!! In Iraq, they cut peoples heads off!!! Tell me where that is happening in Houston!!??? Doesn't he know you can get a decent "lemon chicken dinner" with all the trimmings in Houston??

He's slandered every American, and he's giving aid and comfort to the people that are trying to destroy us. What he said just made every police officer's job in Houston harder. He's putting those brave police officers in danger for the sake of political expediency.

His comments went way too far and he should either apologize for comparing our brave men and women of Houston as "head-chopping terrorist", or he should resign.

...

See how framing the debate works?
