Here was a letter in today's Austin, TX. Paper:
Gitmo is necessary
What part of "fight to the death" does the liberal establishment not understand?
Do they really think that the biblical tribal hatred of 4,000 years will blossom into warm fuzzies from the Arab world if only we stop "mistreating" Guantanamo detainees?
The left's naivete here is beyond shocking. Our adversaries, culturally imprisoned since the 7th century by the cruel strictures of their religion, would be just as happy to go back to that time, but with cell phones, Al Jazeera and pickups.
Worse, they'd like the rest of the world to join them there, under duress, if necessary. What, if any, personal retaliatory threshold exists for Americans who decry Guantanamo and, indeed, our whole Middle East policy?
Would it take a "suitcase nuke" cooking off somewhere in the West to bring them to their senses? Two? Three? That's the situation we eventually face, and the administration's actions are our only hope of heading off an apocalyptic, sand-into-glass showdown.

Here's my response (I hope they print it!):
What part of "love thy enemy" does the conservative establishment not understand?
Do they really think that the Biblical teachings of 2,000 years will happen on their own?
The right's gall here is what’s shocking. Christ taught us to love and pray for our enemies, not bind, gag, sexually torment, nor let them sit in their own excrements. Perhaps the right would be happy to go back to a time where that would be acceptable, but with cell phones, televangelists, and SUVs.
Worse still, the right would like those who are not with them, but rather against them (or who haven’t signed a loyalty oath), to join them there.
What will it take for the right to realize they are acting in an inhumane, anti-Christian manner? It seems our administration's actions are the only way of ensuring that Biblical teaching on the treatment of others is not adhered too.

"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' 39But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. Love for Enemies 43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew 38-48, NIV
