I'm settled on Janeane Garofalo
I went through my Malloy stage, I enjoy my morning cup with Mark and Marc, I can sometimes listen to Randi for more than 10 minutes, Jerry's got a great style that will reach many people, and Al is a genius. But after trying everyone out I have settles in with Janeane as my absolute favorite AAR personality. She started out faltering a little, and Sam had to carry her at times. But she has found her cadence and as far as being knowledgeable, no one does more research and is more aware of what is really going on.

Here's to you Janeane. I love you.

1. Janeane breaks the mold for smart chicks!
I don't mean this in a demeaning way, on the contrary it's my way of complementing her appeal. IMHO, there's nothing sexier than a smart chick!

2. It is hard not to appreciate her passion and dedication...
that's for sure. She gets so very caught up in her arguments that there is no stepping back once she gets "wound up." I"m like that, so it is good to hear that others are not put off by that trait in Janeane (it has cause me problems, that's for sure). Her frustration when people she likes/respects spout a line that seems incompatible with the evidence, is palpable.... I hope she doesn't burn out. Sam shouldn't be underestimated either, IMO. He's grown on me and I think he is particularly good by himself--not that I don't like the two together.

3. I love Janeane too, but, I still think Randi is tops with Janeane
next comes Al, Jerry gets on my nerves, his voice is annoying and he lectures too much, no humor. I am sick of Big Ed. He is middle America, uninformed.

7. that's exactly how I feel about Jerry....
I now literally LUNGE for the controls ("puter" when streaming, or my remote when listening on XM) to change to something esle after the 7AM news here (Mountain time zone). I've tried to listen, I really have, but that voice drives me nuts and there is nothing more grating than being lectured by someone who is too often inadequately informed (or naive). Katherine Lampher does that as well on Al Franken's show-- all to often. A little devil's advocacy is fine, but taken to extreme she could be easily mistaken for the RW apologists that are pervasive in the "media."

(I have taken to not talking about Ed, because he seems to have some very loyal followers here and I don't enjoy flame wars...My first impression was that he could be easily mistaken for Rush Limbutt-- in his delivery. Sometimes I find more similarities than that!)

4. I really liked Unfiltered and now I listen to Rachel Madow's one hour on
my ipod (I down load the pod cast) very good synopsis of what to look for in the day to come. I really like The Franken show as well.

8. Question about the podcast... how much delay after the show
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 08:41 AM by hlthe2b
airs, is it available?

I have the little XM unit that lets you record 5 hours, but it's recording flexibility is pretty limited-- in fact the unit has to be off for timed recording to work, so I was curious about other options for when I want to catch up on what I missed (slept through)...!

16. go to AARs web site and click on Rachels show, but it is the only one
that has a pod cast link.... On your computer at least the pod cast is available 15 min. after the show is over... I right click the link and drop it on to my iPod...

5. I don't think she belongs on AAR.
She's always cutting people off. She's not that good with the message. She's alway's trying to diagnose people with some mental disorder. I think she should be removed or replaced, but to each, his own.

9. She gets caught up in her emotion, views....
But, like Malloy, I think Janeane's passion is what some find cathartic. I don't listen daily and perhaps she needs to moderate a bit, but I still like her. (As I have already admitted, she is more like myself, than I should probably admit, in terms of dominating discussion once the passion gets going! This is a "not so cool" tendency I do try hard to minimize and I think she is working on it as well)

13. I agree
And her sentences are like a Gertrude Stein nightmare: "There is singularly nothing that makes a difference a difference in beginning and in the middle and in ending except that each generation has something different at which they are all looking. By this I mean so simply that anybody knows it that composition is the difference which makes each and all of them then different from other generations and this is what makes everything different otherwise they are all alike and everybody knows it because everybody says it."

Only less meaningful.

6. I like her too
She has a genuineness that I like. She doesn't claim to know everything, but she obviously knows tons more than I ever will.

I like that she and Sam make each other laugh. They're fun to listen to.

Randi is incredibly well-informed, and often funny, and ALWAYS passionate, but she's mean and dismissive to so many callers that I can't take it. She just shouldn't take calls, 'cause she doesn't like to listen to other people.

10. Randi does jump to conclusions, all too often... causing her to
be abrasive with some callers. That is probaably her biggest on-air vice. I do like that she mixes a "serious, passionate, sometimes angry" approach with humor, and even periods of silliness. That makes her much more listenable to me than Malloy on the long term. I do appreciate Malloy, but he gets my BP up to high, I think!

11. I like...
... pretty much all of the AAR crew. I've only listened a few days, but I agree, Ms. Garafolo is very good, her strength seems to be a firm grasp of the facts and a tight rein on her outrage.

I like Randi and have yet to hear any of the lapses she gets a lot of bad press for here. I tend to think that a lot of her antics are merely an attempt to create good radio, which is essential to the success of "librul" radio. So I'm likely to give her a pass.

I love Mike Malloy but I do understand how some could find him over the top. But you have to admit, whether you agree with his conculsions or not, his facts are a lot more factual than the facts you will hear on right wing radio :)

AAR is absolutely essential to the success of an opposition party in this country. We need all kinds of hosts to appeal to all kinds of folks. I think they are doing a very good job.

15. That's the key. Variety to cater to all tastes
I see it as a good thing that almost everyone likes to trash at least one AAR person.

12. She Is The Poster Child For The Liberal Elitist Stereotype. Doesn't Listen
and is preprogrammed with her own kneejerk ideology.

Sorry, that's my opinion and I can't wait til they yank her off the air.

That she gets a daily show and Rachel Maddow only gets one day on the weekends is ridiculous.

18. Rachel is the best one on AAR, no contest
I get more out of 1 hour with her than 3 hours with any of the others.
