Was Andrea Mitchell making fun of Durbin on Imus this morning? |
|
I tuned in to the last few minutes (where they do a quick synopsis) and I believe I heard her mimicking his apology and pretending to sniffle and cry and "the boys" were roaring in laughter. Anyone see this?

with the sound off, I saw tucker carlson, and the underline was "durbin apology, too late?"
just reinforces that when we cave, we accomplish nothing.

5. No, there is plenty that is accomplished |
|
The Democrats are perceived as even weaker.
Legislatively, Democrats lose even more ground.
The Democrats are seen as spineless.
The Democrats are seen as easily forced to back down.
The Republicans look good and true and patriotic and powerful.
That's what's accomplished.

12. Uh...Bolton Hasn't Been Confirmed Yet |
|
The best offense is a strong defense. The Repugnicans are having problems holding their ranks and, of course, making Democrats look weak diverts from their own problems that continue to build. We're seeing a change starting to happen and those memes are starting to wear thin.
Yes, Democrats are spineless when they don't speak the way Senator Durbin did...I didn't hear a single "Democratic spokesperson" on a Sunday yakfest even agree with the truth the Senator spoke...yet we all know these to be true. It's as though speaking the truth is no virtue.
In the big picture, Senator Durbin's words will be recalled as one of the voices of reasonable outrage in a time of political madness. I hope he'll be looked back as the one who looked McCarthy in the eye in those 1950's hearings and said "Senator, have you no decency". That moment is coming. Maybe it arrived and we're just too close to the forest to see the trees.

The idea that Durbin would ever - ever - be compared to Joseph Welch is laughable, if it weren't so sad.
Joseph Welch did not back down, not for a second. He spoke and he let his words stand. Durbin did nothing of the kind, and soiled himself in the worst possible way.
Then, McCain, ever the whore, leapt to the podium to "forgive" Durbin.
All we need is Chairman Mao's Little Red Book.

16. Backing Down? Did Durbin Retract? |
|
He said he appologized to those who he made uncomfortable...not that he appologized for what he said. He can't appologize for the fact this country participate in acts that can be view (and are abroad) in the same light as the Nazi and the Soviets...and it's time we stopped ignoring this.
Gitmo's not going away. It's usefulness now, so long after most of the prisoners were swept up, is dubious at best and the longer they're detained, the bigger the drain is on our prestige.
Again, my regrets is other Democrats didn't stand up with Senator Durbin and given him the cover to stand his ground firmer. The rhetoric was getting away from what was/is going on at Gitmo and to what was being said and how it was being interpreted.

17. Durbin let himself become the issue |
|
That was his worst error - to issue his "apology" just played into the hands of those who needed to cloud the issue. In doing so, he fixed the matter in concrete.
Gitmo, as an issue, has gone away. That's my guess. Durbin and his "apology" became the issue, and, once again, the Rovian brilliance has taken the messenger and made him the message.
You're absolutely right - where were the other Democrats? My disgust with all of them is complete.

18. Hate Radio Made Durbin The Issue |
|
Remember, these comments were made last Thursday...on Friday it was all over hate radio (right on cue) and was drummed up over-and-over all weekend long. Senator Durbin had NO forum to respond and no one was stepping up to defend what he said. Now what's the deal with that?
This was a manufactured Repugnican spin non-issue...made to distract from the point Durbin was making and making Durbin the issue. It sure as hell worked, and Democrats condemning Durbin for "caving in" are buying into the right wing game as well.
Cheers!

20. No, condemning Durbin for doing what he did |
|
is simply stating another truth - that he acted like every other Democratic representative in the face of assaults from the rightwingnuts and Rovian machinations.
If you want to label something "anti-Republican," just tell the truth. Durbin was on his way, and then he caved. Another truth.

19. See. Everytime I get my hopes up, it explodes in my face. |
|
With Dean, Conyers hearing, Reid's comments, and now Durbin, somehow I think they're finally getting it. Then this happens, and a Democratic mayor is the one who forced him to it. It's enough to just give up.
Everything that's thrown at this guy never sticks. Plame, AWOL, 7 minutes on 9/11, Carlysle, Saudi connections, failed economy, LNCB, Leave no Tree Behind, Gannon/Guckert, Paid propagandist media whores, Filthy Skies Act...he comes out smelling like a rose EVERY SINGLE TIME! I'm living in some alternate universe.
Downing Street Minutes are getting my hopes up again. Once bitten though.

3. It was Durbin's own fault. |
|
If he was tagging the Bush administration with the "Nazi" label he should have said so. Instead he chickened out and allowed the Repukes to characterize what he said as a hit at the troops. And then he confirmed their accusations by apologizing to the troops.

She was doing this mock apology about nazi camps, etc. and pretending to sniffle...and the Imus crew were laughing and wiping their eyes. It was just horrible. I suppose we all get to be humiliated now on the talk shows for the next couple of weeks. Thanks, Daley and Durbin.

9. I'm now officially pissed at everyone in the Democratic Party 'leadership' |

Except the few folks, like essentially the ENTIRE BLACK CAUCUS, who are actually up for the fight.
The Cabal could start rounding us up in the dead of the night and carting us away and our 'leaders' would be making excuses for it.

What was Durbin thinking? His credibility is shot to hell with both parties. He might as well go and work in a car wash for all the political respect he will get from now on.

11. Hell, on C-Span 2 this morning Frist was plowing that same old |
|
stuff AGAIN! Had to go on the record that Durbin's apology was needed and thanked him for taking back his words. Of course, while thanking Durbin, Frist practically repeated everything Durbin had said about Nazi and soldiers in the process (can't let the "morans" forget a single syllable!). Nothing like keeping it going by parroting the words over and over again just in case somebody decides to focus on real problems in the Senate.
Reid is now raking Chimpy and Frist over the coals for "continuing to fight" over Bolton, the war, etc. Reid is 100 times the statesman than Frist will ever hope to be.

Exact quote from an MSNBC interview of Lady Andrea Mitchell, her thoughts on the DSM the morning of Wednesday June 15
You would have had to be brain dead not to know what the president was up to.
