To The Flaming Hypocrites On DU Who Badmouth Durbin |
|
You didn't bother to send him money or emails of support when he was under the gun.
The MOST you did was post a couple of times on DU on how what he was saying was correct.
Well, BIG FUCKING DEAL.
You want Senators to speak out but you're not willing to stand behind them and PROVE your support when it matters.
The GOP attack machine goes into gear and DU'ers do nothing. I started a thread asking DU'ers to start a fundraising campaign for Durbin or to send him a token of support and IT SANK LIKE A ROCK. And you let the Hostettler comments fly by with little more than a blip. Oh, he apologised...so we'll just pretend it never happened.
But what's the icing on the cake are the HUNDREDS of threads daily on the DSM which isn't going to sink the GOP in '06- which would be the ONLY way to get an impeachment.
Yet 9 million dollars were stolen in Iraq by Bush cronies who are STILL getting contracts and DU'ers ignore this war profiteering... the ONE issue that would kill the GOP in elections.
I have begun to question the productive nature of this forum. It seems to filled with mostly with whiners, disruptors and precious few intelligent posters.

The guy did put his foot in his mouth...If you are going to make such a powerful statement be prepared to back it up and stand tough or DO NOT make the statement at all.
It only makes him look worse to then apologize and to start crying like a little baby to boot.
And to your stuff about the forum...Keep in mind this is not only a place to learn and discuss its also a place to vent. Where else can people go to just let off political steam? I know I can not do that in my house, so I come here.

9. I don't think he put his foot in his mouth at all - he told the truth |
|
I sent him one email and called twice to support him. I feel bad for what they did to him.

4. How can you say with any certainty... |
|
that people did not "send him money" or supportive emails. I did, and I am sure others did as well. I did not do it through your thread however, as I did not see it. That being said, I do hope other DUers do NOT rush to castigate you, as your passion for saving our democracy is quite evident, and it would serve no purpose to drive people like you away.

Durbin's apology or non-apology or whatever it was was BREAKING NEWS on CNN last night with the headline "Durbin apologizes" as it was on NPR this morning's headline "Durbin apologizes."
If he can't figure out how the media will spin it against him then he doesn't deserve my respect. If he can't speak his mind without having to come back and qualify it after the whiners in he White House chastize him...fuck him.
I question the whiners and disruptors who attack evolution in a stealthy metaphysical manner.

8. I understand your anger... |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 09:04 AM by Stand and Fight
I understand your anger, but don't you think it is a little misdirected? I concur that people seemingly need to do more, but just because they're not posting it here for the world does not mean it is not happening. Maybe people are donating lots of time, effort, and money to causes like Senator Durbin, but they don't see fit to brag about it. Who knows? But I believe that people are trying - and there are other things in their lives that concern them as much, as little, and perhaps even more. It's not our place to sit in judgment -- that's just so... Fristian.
Threads sink -- it happens. This is no reason to aim vitriol at fellow progressives. Hell, I've seen threads that I thought were absolutely magical in their content, but they sank... I understand that it's a little like standing in a room full of people and having some or all of them ignore you, but you have to recognize that you're not the only person speaking in such a forum. There's a whole hell of a lot of information that goes through DU on a daily basis, and perhaps what you were trying to do was not seen as important as other issues.
Just because people don't see eye-to-eye with one's views, does not make them "whiners", "disruptors," or lacking in intelligence. The Democrats, Greens and other Leftists on this site are fighting right alongside you. We're all united in our strong dislike -- Dare I say, hatred? -- of the other side, but we've got to maintain and present a united front. I can see why you'd be frustrated, but perhaps that frustration would be better spent lighting a fire under the asses of Republicans and not your fellow Left-Wingers? Hang in there. Hang tough. We're in this together.
Just a thought... I hope you feel better.

10. We're Too Busy Expecting Idealism |
|
The marvels of DU. Behind keyboards all of us can play pundit and let out some frustrations. The value as a vent is what this place is for. It's also a diverse group of ages, interests, lifestyles and so on...and like herding cats, it's all but impossible to organize and coordinate.
IMHO, much of our common frustration boils over onto our own as we see no way of getting at the other side. Last year's election deepened that frustration and the impulse to lash out is a lot quicker now than what it once was.
Well, I did send Senator Durbin money...in each of his campaigns...and I will be working for him in 2008 when he seeks re-election. Check my posts here, FWIW, I stood behind him when he made his statement...in fact very proud of it...and remain proud of it now.
I know he didn't appologize for what he said, just for making others uncomfortable by saying it. Doesn't mean he won't say it again.
And the way others are jumping all over the way people on hate radio and the right wing proved how uncomfortable it made those people. Looks like the condmenations here on DU shows how this has affected those on the other side.

I sent Durbin an email on my own accord. Never even saw your original post. Taking your anger out on fellow DUers is a sure-fire way to alienate your "cause" and your future threads. Just because your thread sank, doesn't mean people weren't listening. Everyone here has their own pet issues. Bring your anger down a notch, please?

12. It is unrealistic to expect our elected officials to have a spine... |
|
...and stand by their utterances without a massive groundswell of emails of support and such.
That is what I am hearing.
I mean, who really wants democratic leaders who can just say what they believe without having an army behind them to make them to "validate" their statements?

14. Thank you for posting this |

because I completely agree with you. We are either united or we're not. We can't be both. There is another Democrat who seems to get it from all sides every time his name is mentioned. John Forbes Kerry is his name.
The day before yesterday I had the displeasure of reading a thread where every post was bashing him. I was taught that when someone is ripped off you don't blame the victim. I too am very angry about the turn of events in the Capital, but in my own opinion(just my own, mind you)John Kerry would be right up there with the greatest of the great.
Underestimating the intelligence of Mr. Kerry will come back to bite them hard in the ass. Would you rather have who we are stuck with now?Ever since that farce of an election my life has been all politics, all the time. Because I care about the lives of my loved ones and all the poor and the forgotten. Because I don't appreciate being lied to for profits for the already rich. Because Gearge W. is an evil son of a bitch who belongs in the Hague.
All I have dreamed about is seeing that liar impeached and disgraced. I too have a dream.
Please try to stick with what matters. Please try not to behave like they do.I am a proud liberal Democrat and don't mind voicing that fact. And as an end to this rant, I emailed Senator Durbin and the main theme was: NEVER APOLOGIZE.
