PROGRESSIVE CHRISTIANS TO ANNOUNCE
NEW POLITICAL ORGANIZATION TO SPREAD THE WORD OF THE GOSPEL, COUNTER LEADERS OF RELIGIOUS RIGHT

Major Launch Events to be Held Wed. in Washington, DC and Thursday in Jacksonville, FL

Contact: Rabinowitz/Dorf Communications, 202-265-3000

June 22, 2005 -- JACKSONVILLE, FL –- After 30 years of sustained effort by leaders like Rev. Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and Dr. James Dobson to merge evangelical Christianity with a conservative political agenda, a new grassroots progressive organization on the political left will announce its creation Wednesday. The Christian Alliance for Progress is a national movement of Christians seeking to reclaim Christianity and transform American politics.

Also tomorrow, the Christian Alliance for Progress will unveil its “Jacksonville Declaration,” an open letter to the political and church leaders of the Religious Right, which challenges and invites them to return to a Christian foundation of compassion and justice, values that Jesus passionately taught and lived. The full text of the Jacksonville Declaration is available at www.christianalliance.org.

This new hard-hitting grassroots national Christian organization will be launched Wednesday morning, June 22 at 10:00 am at the National Press Club’s First Amendment Lounge in Washington, DC. This will be followed by a second launch event at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 23 in Jacksonville, Florida across from the auditorium of the First Baptist Church of downtown Jacksonville at Beaver and Hogan Streets.
