Hubby: It was my wife's fault I tried to have her killed
A former Marine convicted of trying to contract his wife's murder says he deserves a light sentence because she squandered his money and wouldn't give him sex, dinner or clean laundry.
``Like an ivory tower princess, her delusional attitude seemed to be that it was my duty, my obligation, my purpose, alone, to work off these debts she created,'' Harold Stonier said in a 50-page filing in federal court in Boston, seeking leniency as he awaits sentencing.
Stonier, who was caught on tape plotting various scenarios for his wife's murder, called her a ``spiteful, conniving, vengeful lunatic who creates her own distortion of reality.'' He claimed his wife deprived him of basic comforts such as laundry and marital intimacy, ignored his demands to prepare weekly menus for his approval, and played the TV loud in their bedroom at night, forcing him to watch the women-oriented ``Oxygen Channel.''

There's not a lot you can say in comment about this guy. I just wonder what his family life was like. He's probably a fundie.

but the "Oxygen Channel" is just going too far.

20. I work with a woman, who otherwise is a pretty cool lady, but every
morning, she talks about what movie she watch last night on "Lifetime for Women".

It's all I can do to keep from screaming at her.

I'm sorry, but if a movie has Meredith Baxter Birney in it, it's NOT a good movie. PERIOD. No exceptions.

31. Ha, ha, ha!
My husband very, very occasionally asks "what's for supper?" He usually gets "I haven't thought about it yet." I usually make dinner according to how much work I feel like doing that day. Whenever we go out to eat, he gets to pick where we go. I told him he deserves that, because he eats whatever I decide to make him the rest of the week. He knows he'd be absolutely crazy to ask me for a weekly menu.

12. Sadly not uncommon attitudes
Lots of people going through a bad divorce say these things about their spouse. Trouble is, this guy has been taught you solve problems by killing them. The only thing that really surprises me is that he didn't just do what some abusers do and kill her himself.

Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 07:48 AM by sendero
... who find themselves with a woman that wants to spend money, watch TV, deny intimacy and fail to maintain a household.

Leave. Don't waste time, time won't fix it. Get out. Quickly.

This guy is an idiot, and a murderer.

It's supposed to be a partnership, after all, not a contract for sexual/domestic services.

26. "you made me do it!" The rallying cry of the abuser.
The idea that they could possibly have had anything to do with creating their situation just does not enter their consciousness. How is that possible?

Amazing! Abso-freaking-lutely amazing!

28. uh-huh

It's pathological narcissism - always the victims fault.

Pathological narcissists can't face themselves and project their own guilt onto their victims. They can dig themselves deeper and deeper into denial until it becomes murderous.

I read the article. This guy tried not once but twice to have his wife murdered. This is not funny folks. It seems that this is his second marriage and they have a young child--just six years old.

Makes me wonder if the authorities knew about the first attempt and
kept quiet about it because he was such an "outstanding" guy.

Up thread the comment was made that he should have "done it himself"

and that would be "OK". :puke:

38. I can't even comment on this rationally, as I knew a woman who
was killed by her husband last year b/c he wanted out of the marriage and his religion forbade divorce. People in troubled relationships often have complaints about each other (I'm sure this man's wife has some complaints about him too). None of these complaints justify murder. Why the hell don't these people just divorce???

41. This is the standard wife-beater routine.
Go to your local courthouse some day and watch the restraining order hearings. A good 30% of them stand up and say with all sincerity that yes they beat the hell out of her but it was her fault because she was a bitch and she deserved it.

47. So, if she contracted to have HIM killed
because he's a sexist, controlling, paranoid, abusive, rapist asshole, is that okay?

That may well be the lamest goddam excuse for being a sociopathic murderer I've ever heard. Dude, if you're not happy with your marital arrangements, I highly suggest divorce. It's legal in all 50 states and everything! (Oh, and next time you might want to consider hiring a housekeeper and buying a blow-up doll instead of marrying. It sounds like that's what you were after, not a spouse.)
