Do you think real repukes in CA would rather have Davis or Cruz win.....
in this recall election?

Here me out on this one - it's a crazy notion, but work with me.

First, Arnold is NOT a real candidate. He has yet to come out with any idea of how to solve any of California's problems except with a few fancy quotes from his days of being an Action Movie Star. I've gotten a serious impression that the type of folks who are excited about Arnold as their governor are folks that probably don't give a rats ass about politics and think it would be "neat-o" to have someone like Arnold as their governor. I wouldn't be suprised if many of these people haven't voted that often in past elections but are going out this time just for the thrill of voting for "The Terminator"

Which is why polls done with "What would happen if Tom McClintock drops out" don't really raise Arnold's numbers that much more. Because real republicans just aren't that thrill of having Arnold as a governor. He's too liberal on the social issues and let's face it - he has no clue how to fix the problem with California's, which isn't going to be a problem that gets solved in 3 years no matter who the governor is.

Plus this whole recall mess does look bad for the republicans on a whole. It was a republican that forced this issue and is costing CA taxpayers over $50 million dollars to have it.

If the republicans really wanted to win this think, McClintock and Simon would have dropped out and enthusiasically endorsed the one candidate that could beat Davis and/or Bustamente. But they're staying in the race even though polls show that Cruz will probably win this thing.

So, (adjusts my ever-so-tight tinfoil hat). What if the Repukes don't want to win this recall. They're stuck with it and they have to ride this thing out. And in 2006 when CA has it's next real governor election, if Arnold is the governor that might be a tough race for another republican to come in there and defeat him in the primaries.

HOWEVER.....If Davis wins then he's out no matter what in 2006 because his 2 terms is overwith and it'll be an easier campaign for McClintock or Simon to run.

And if Bustamente wins, well, it'll still be an easier race for the real republicans and they'll probably link Cruz with Gray Davis throughout the campaign as added ammo.

So am I the only ones who think that these real republicans really don't want to see Arnold in the State House. I think they're already looking ahead to 2006 when they'll have a better chance against an open seat or Bustamente!

2. And I know you're from California
I thought it was the craziest thought out there, but if Republicans really wanted to win this they'd organize, ask a few candidates to drop out and campaign hard for the one remaining.

If anything this would be a great time for folks like McClintock and Simon to start packing their war chest for the 2006 run!

3. Keeping it simple. Keeping with Democracy. Gray Davis won.
However easy it may be, it is vital for Democrats not to allow Republicans to continue to dictate anti-Democratic aggression, and for us to resiste getting caught up in this hornets nest flurry initiated by a Republicans bat.

Again, through our lack of forethought at realizing the actions that would ensue by allowing this recall to even occur, we have allowed bullies once more to steamroll over Democracy. I am aware that this was in so many ways legal, however, one day we may wake up and decide that we must take a few pages from the Republicans book and learn how to fight like they do when necessary. (The person who coined the phrase turn the other cheek was probably a bully himself.)

Right is Right and Wrong is Wrong. No matter how you slice it. Because Dems and intimidating Republicans allowed this recall to continue, (I say this because I believe Republicans would have shut down California before they would have let us pull a stunt like this), other recalls are now being threatened and attempted in states like Nevada and Wisconsin.

Gray Davis won FAIR and SQUARE, more importantly has done NOTHING concrete or otherwise to initiate a recall for the governorship. If so, why isnt Simon the one leading the pack? If we dont begin protecting our own and not to mention our rightly won offices, we will continue to see Democracy die. If we dont stand up now, there will come a point where it will be too late.

We either learn to stand together or die apart.

4. Here from crazy California
I think your theory is plausible with the pragmatic and smart Republicans who do back this recall. I still see a large segment of them who profess to conservative saying they are going to vote for Arnold because the want to win. Repugs IMHO will compromise their principles to win. I don't ever want to hear a Repug throw stones at Clinton again, because Arnie out does Clinton any day in sleaze.

6. I suspect you haven't seen this site Lynne
http://www.republicansagainsttherecall.com

pretty much articulates what you're saying, so you are catching the wavelength.

The recall,as I keep emphasizing, will cost more than the 50 mill up front.Californians will end up paying BILLIONS more in additional interest whenever we float a bond issue; money that we will never get back that could have been better spent in myriad ways.

Prediction: this will give the dems a lock on CA for years to come.

and you're selling Cruz WAY short.
