1. A counstruction company owner used to have one of the
old ones and he would agree that they break down alot. He fourtunately had a full time mechanice that could tend to it. He said he would never buy one again.

2. Rated as a MEDIOCRE vehicle by JD Power.
The only place it gets points is for "styling," like those garbage cans on wheels look stylish.

7. garbage can
I don't think I've heard a more apt description of the abomination that is the Hummer than you garbage can on wheels. Stopping to consider it, it does indeed resemble some oversized dumpster. An automotive magazine I once subscribed to published a letter from some gentleman who in it suggested several alternative readings for the acronym SUV, unfortunately I recycled that issue long ago and cannot remember even which publication, though I do recall my favorite of his offerings which was Silly Urban Vanity. Perhaps some DUer could help me and the debate along by finding the communication I refer to.I've exhausted my meager search skills.

6. Humvees, not Hummers.
But I wouldn't be surprised if Hummers are pieces of shit too.

8. I would imagine the environment is rough on them.
In similar parts we'd have to clean the filers an insane amount of times. Maintenance sucks in desert environments.

11. We need to bring back the good ol' fashioned Jeep.
Seemed to work great in previous wars and we know those are some hard core off-road vehicles.

12. Up-Armoring Them Makes Them Weigh Too Much
The frame, the engine, the brakes, everything is being overloaded
by the weight of all that extra steel.

They also burn so much gas that even the DoD is looking for something
more fuel-efficient.

As for the Hummer, it probably won't be around much longer.
I assume that a lot of the market for Hummers is from people who actually
enjoyed their time in the military. I think most of those who have
returned from Iraq don't ever want to see another Humvee or anything
that looks like one.

My son's actual job in iraq is repairing the Humvees and uparmoring them.he says not are they breaking down more,it takes three times as long to pull an engine due to the armor.
