Has the GOP put forth any policies that have actually helped average Ameri |
|
The establishment of the US Constitution was actually a left/Liberal movement, Left has brought about Civil Rights Womans Suffrage, Child Labor laws, OSHA, Ability to organize labor, Social Security, TVA, Medicaid, Public Education, Pell Grants, Peace Corp, GI Bill and so much more I can't even list it, but I am having a very hard time thinking of any program or policy that has benefited Average America. Nixon signed Affirmative Action into law but I don't believe it originated from him. Eisenhower established the Interstate Highway System but I do not consider that a Conservative idea. Anyone???? There must be something they can claim as their policy that made America a better place to live.

Lincoln was a Republican. LBJ relied upon a bunch of republicans to make up for the loss of the dixiecrats when passing civil rights legislation in the 60's. But the GOP hasn't been in power much in the last 100 years so their opportunities would be limited. Since '94 I'd be hard pressed to say what they've done. Their entire policy has been basically to undo the previous 60 years of accomplishment by the democrats/liberals. (Talk about "obstructionist".) Heck, they're even going after the single most successful federal government program in history, social security.

President Nosepicker has made trillionaires out of millionaires (by moving tax money from the poor directly to the tax refunds of the rich).
Now THAT'S progress!

The problem is that all of the good programs you mention are decried by the GOP as horrible misuses of government, so you're really addressing the fundamental difference in worldview.

10. Maybe so but what do they offer as replacement and how does it help? |
|
I draw a blank. They may hate everything beneficial (IMHO) to humanity and especially America but what is their alternative? Endless War and Fear, Endless Debt, Social Pariah among the world, EPA is very good if it indeed originated from the Conservative Agenda. I somehow think it is more of them adopting a very popular program as their own. They seem to do that occasionally.

11. It's dangerous to paint with too broad a brush, but |

It seems clear that the GOP powers that be have little interest in the well-being of the common citizen and are much more concerned with the well-being of the privileged donor (ie, leisure) class.
This is hardly a new observation, but it's worth re-making at every opportunity.

12. Reagan was a big proponent of the Earned Income Tax Credit. |
|
Clinton expanded it. It's a big help to low-income families, (but it doesn't make up for the crippling effects of Reaganomics, Bushnomics and Clintonomics on ordinary working families.)
