So what's the Shrub gonna do for the next 13 months? |
|
A new LIHOP or MIHOP isn't going to do squat for him. It would just make him look even MORE dangerously clueless than he already does.
He sure as heck isn't going to repeal his tax cuts, nor will he create jobs out of whole cloth.
Could he sell the 'Mercan people on another war? Well, maybe, if he tells us in ADVANCE that it's all about sex slavery. But I know a lot of conservative Republicans who are rolling their eyes already over all the Iran and Syria saber-rattling.
The man currently sits in the 40s in the polls. By this time next year he'll be in the 20s, if that. And should he "win" the election at that time, won't it be pretty obvious that it's all rigged?
I really don't see what options the little guy has now, and a year is a loooonng time.

Don't expect a retreat. These guys are going to attack, attack, attack and hope they've destroyed enough of our Democracy to steal another election.

No that's what I hope he'll be doing in 13 months and ongoing. At least we don't have to worry about a presidential library this time around. More like a presidential bookbag.

5. I would imagine that after losing the election |
|
he'll be relieved to go back to Texas and we'll never hear another word from him. He certainly won't write a book that anyone would be interested in since he won't reveal even the most mundane aspects of his life. I don't see where he'd be of any value on the lecture circuit, unless the deer-in-the-headlights look will suddenly be in demand. The little woman will probably write one of those warm and fuzzy memoirs of her White House years with Barney and Spot, but I can't see them making news ever again, except maybe when the twins (if they survive), get married..

21. IF things keep going like this for him (one can only hope), |
|
he'll be so discredited by the time he's blown out of office that he won't be much good on the lecture circuit. His appeal will be limited. He may have to, or want to, go into seclusion for awhile and wait for it all to blow over before he sticks his ugly head up from under his rock. Or rather, probably a bourbon bottle.

Since he can go another year running up the defecits. I'd say he'll probably just tell his cabinet to do whatever they want and go around raising money.

Heard a great audio clip on Randi Rhodes' show today from the lowest rated show on network TV last night. 43* tells brit hume that he doesn't read newspapers, he has people do that and brief him. He counts on conde and crew for his "news". Can we vote yet?

14. If you want a serious answer |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 10:08 PM by DrBB
I think their expectation is that they will have more or less settled the Iraq question. Meaning they'll have some kind of UN fig-leaf in place, so that even if things are still kind of rocky there will be enough evidence of improvement and enough internationalist legitimacy in place to cover 'em and let 'em play it as a success. Heaping scorn on all the skeptics, justified or not. The number of attacks per day, b.t.w., has fallen considerably in recent weeks. And Iraq is the source of much of the fall in his numbers.
I also think that the economy will be starting to revive. Not enough to replace all the jobs they've lost--he'll still have the worst record since Hoover--but enough for them to say, See? Our policies are working! We need more time to do more of the same! Another fig leaf, but fig leaves are fine--that's all these bozos have ever had.
I.e., it's a bit early to be complacent.

16. Yes, I really do want a serious answer |
|
And I appreciate your response, DrBB.
I just think the little bastard shot his wad today. This could have been the defining moment of the rest of his one term--his "Checkers" speech, if you will. But instead he gave the world a shockingly lame diatribe filled with nonsequitors and stream-of-consciousness (if, indeed, such a term can be used with Bush) horseshit about sex slavery.
I just wonder what in the hell he could have up his sleeve for A WHOLE YEAR. That's a long time when you have the attention span of a common housefly. That's a lot of trips to the pig farm in Crawford. That's A HELL of a lot of Grand Theft Auto games on the GameBoy. And I was being generous when I said his polls would be in the 20s a year from now. I'm really wondering if he won't be run out on a rail within 9 months.

I think they are cornered. I do not see the economy going anywhere but down, and fast. The loss of jobs is the key to this. That is not going to stop.
I don't see them getting out of Iraq, and if they do, it will be at an enormous loss of the last political capital they have. The 53% who disapprove now will always disapprove.
So that's why I think short of another LIHOP, they are going down in a spectacular way. Cheney gone by the end of the year, some more repositioning of the chairs on the titanic, and then Bush loses huge.
I also wonder if there's any way he could handle the rigors of the debates. Maybe he'll just duck out of them, but that would only plunge his approval lower.
He's done. I just hope they don't do something very huge and terrifying before then. Even if they do, they've lost.

This is what he did in Texas ... spend the year before the election making himself look all soft-spoken and sweet-tempered, hoping to trick voters (specially us wimmenfolk) into thinking "he's learned his lesson". They've already started, with that 9/11 propaganda movie and that FOX interview where he modulated his voice and looked all teary-eyed.

25. Bush always runs the same |
|
He picks two or three issues and runs on them.
He has incredible discipline for a candidate. He will stay on his 2-3 issues regardless of the world around him or what the other candidate is talking about. The average person who pays very little attention to the campaign will be able to say what Bush stands for and wants on election day. This is a real strength of his.
If you remember, he touted a tax cut plan at the beginning of the primaries. As the campaign went on, the economy was slowing, and finally looked like it was going into a recession. McCain changed his tax cut plan. Gore changed his 2-3 times. But Bush never changed his even while the economic numbers showed that there wasn't going to be the money to do what he wanted to do, he stayed with his plan exactly as it was written, even though it was written a full year earlier and assumed a very different economy.
Strong minded -- or simple minded, that's how he's always run. I wouldn't expect anything different this time.
