Don't ask for my help again...
http://stevegilliard.blogspot.com/2005/06/dont-ask-for-my-help-again.html

Gutlessness in the face of a challenge is dishonorable

Look, I'm a practical person. I understand that politics requires compromise. I'm often far more tolerant of deal making than some of my peers. I've done politics and I get the point. You sometimes have to back down or make a deal you wouldn't otherwise want to.

But Dick Durbin can go fuck himself.
-----------------

It is that kind of continued gutllessness in the face of rank GOP corruption which enrages many Democrats. We are tired of leaders who will not fight, especially when 15 or so of your collegues can take a pro-lynching stand and have nothing to pay for. Hey, it was just dead black people, so what if 15 Senators didn't have the decency to say lynching was wrong. I bet you'll all have a good chuckle over some Navy Bean Soup in the Senate Dining Room. The GOP can take the most outrageous stands, be totally protected by the media, and you people refuse to actially call them on their antics.

1. Bravo!
Enough gutless wonders. Stand up and speak the truth, or go home.

13. Yes! I've got your back there. Are they part of "the fix" or what?
It sometimes seems, especially with Joe Biden, that the Democratic leaders are part of the ruse to FOOL the common people and transfer increasing wealth to the large corporations. I'm so sick of Biden playing his "bad cop" routine, I could :puke:

2. That's just unbelievable.
What the hell did he have to apologize for?

7. He didn't. He apologized if what he said offended anyone. He didn't
apologize for what he said. When he spoke of the troops, he got a little teary eyed, because he knows the Hell they are going through, and he never meant what he said to be taken in that context.

He (unlike Lott), appears to have a future in the Senate and wants to continue to be there. One day we may all forget this and he will run for President. Of course, this will be used against him. However, by his apologizing, he fixed it, and the Republicans were stupid enough to accept it. So who is the fool?

10. Yes, but just as his original statement was misinterpreted
the apology is going to be interpreted as him recanting what he said. Another victory for Republican nonsense. He should have clarified what he meant and stood his ground.

15. Left-handed, esoteric apologies are meaningless
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 01:58 PM by SoCalDem
Republicans don't "DO" nuance.. All the righties on the air out in "Murka" are playing this one as an APOLOGY for what he said..and A TOTAL smackdown..

The Swaggart-ish quaver in his voice will haunt him forever..He qould have been better off to stand up and say...

"republicans have been saying hateful things forever with total impunity, and I REJECT the criticism of ME when I only spoke the truth".

3. You appear to be stressed. Please accept my invitation to
Club Gitmo.

Also, don't forget who got Lott to resign (pussy).

Hope you get what you need.

5. Apologies from a prisoner of war mean nothing, Senator Durbin.
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 01:31 PM by Burried News
Maybe that's why McCain recommended you apologize.

6. In fairness to Durbin, he was kneecapped by Mayor Daley.
The Rethugs are one thing, but when the head of the Chicago party machine takes a whack at you, it's trouble.

8. Let's say we're at war...
And here's your list of possible COs

Durbin
Biden
Kerry
Clinton (either one)

Now whose unit do you want to be assigned to?

This is a helpful little exercise for those who don't get why Dems are seen as weak on DEFENSE.

Of course there's always the rogue unit under
Howard "Battle Cry" Dean...you just have to know going in that they operate constant heavy fire--most of it friendly.

9. When we are at war
We all should want to lead. The Army knows what its talking about when it says you're an army of one. We need to stop looking for heroes and start being heroic. The leaders we have are in occupied territory - they just look like they're free.

11. Dems weak on defense? Who has been feeding you that bunch
of crap? What have you been reading, right-wing propaganda or listening to Annorexia Coulter, Hannity, or the liar O'Reilly?

Dems aren't weak on defense, we just try to use everything possible to keep from going to war and loosing the innocent lives of Americans.

Unlike the Republicans. They love the war machine because he is a huge cash machine for them. As far as losing innocent American lives, they don't believe it happens because they won't allow the flag-draped coffins to be seen.

Hell, They wouldn't even let Senator Biden go with a family from his state who had invited him to accompany them to get their child's body. Why? What else are they hiding?

I'd choose Kerry. I know his survival and leadership instincts must still be there ... well, somewhere. :P

is an embarrassment to MANY of us for not standing up for what he truly believes in.

18. Feel free to move to Illinois.
We'll be happy to have you get active in our Dem party. Then you can work against those of us who support Durbin and Obama in a Primary...

Better start making a list of states to move to so you can knock off "embarassing" Dems.

Oh--and feel free to start with guys like Lieberman and Miller--M'Kay?

Laura

FIB and damn proud of it today.

19. You know, this "you don't know squat" unless you're from IL
it just getting old. You know exactly what I mean. If you really care and value Senator Durbin as much as you claim, then for Heaven's sake, focus on "squaring him away" so he never f**ks up this bad again.

Best, EP

What is the difference between your statements and the GOP statements against Durbin? Nothing.

Thanks for helping the GOP silence Dems.

20. No, it's the inadvertent result of the gutless wonder democrats
that cower under merely the MANUFACTURED right wing noise machine crises that are supporting the brown-shirts.

If these so called leaders can't stand up to mere MEDIA censure, what are the odds they'll stand up for us when "the going really gets bad." - When they start taking more and more of our civil liberties.

The gutless leaders of our party are IMO helping the brown-shirts. I hope they ALL either find the courage to stand up and Speak TRUTH to Power OR get Promptly Voted Out. - no in-between is acceptable.

And this "support him because he's a democrat" mentality is as bad as people who voted for Bush because he was a Republican.

I just finished reading one of the AP articles on Durbin's apology. And the headline said "Durbin apologizes for comparing Interrogators to Nazis," despite the fact that he didn't fucking say that! Yet instead of calling these nitwits in the media, the congress, and conservative talk radio on their BS, Durbin caved. Frist and McClellan are laughing their asses about this right now, count on it.

And a knock against Dean too, real nice (see the earlier post). At least Dean has enough of a pair to say what he means and then back it up.

23. I say...
as recent polls tend to demonstrate, you should start trusting the public on what they now think of all the (old now) tactics they use (been using) to mislead them...

Trust them. If you do, they won't be fooled again by the dishonesty (they SEE).

I'm beginning to feel like I've been whammed-bammed-thank you mammed by the Dems - from behind even. At least, the Repugs fuck you to your face. If the Dems aren't taking us from the behind, they're copping a little feel, getting us all excited and then walking away.

I AM SICK OF IT!
