Did Anyone See How Many Democrats Voted For The Flag Act?
At last count 70 Democrats have voted on the pro side of this issue.

If ever there was a simple litmus test to separate the DINOS from the democrats, it would be over the flag-burning issue.

2. Dennis Kucinich voted for one of them.
This happens with every session of Congress; Dennis Kucinich voted for the last one. Do you think that Dennis Kucinich should get kicked out of the Democratic Party for this?

3. I don't understand -are you saying Kucinich voted for the Flag Act?
I don't think anyone should be voted out( although that is debatable), just that some should grow a pair.....

10. He voted for some act to ban flag desecration.
I don't know if it's this one you talk about or one that came before it, and that's because this happens every two years. Every session of the house of representatives since around when the first Bush was president has proposed a ban on flag desecration, and every senate keeps it from passing. It's a routine exercise.

I wasn't saying you think they should be voted out; I was responding to the person I posted the response to...who I noticed EDITED THE MESSAGE! Ha ha ha ha!

4. Perhaps his constituents are blockheads
who value blind patriotism above free speech.

15. Kucinich voted for it?
I didn't say anyone should get "kicked out", but the flag issue is an important litmus test to see if a legislator believes in freedom of speech.

In my mind, I can't trust a congressperson who would vote for an amendment to the constitution allowing states to ban flag-burning.

And yes, that counts for Kucinich as well.

I will wait for the official docket to see if Kucinich really did vote "yay" on this dangerous amendment.

I feel very strongly about this issue.

Issues that I will not compromise on, no matter who the candidate is:

1) Support a womans right to chose.
2) Support free speech.
3) Support a plan to extend medical coverage to all Americans.
4) Support a timetable to get the US out of Iraq.
5) Support legislation calling for a verifiable paper ballot.

5. We're already down to #14 in the world for freedoms & democracy; what's
so "free" and "democratic" about a nation that says you burn a piece of fabric, you go to jail?

I know what kind of nationalistic nation it sounds like to me; North Korea, Germany circa 1930s. Wouldn't call them "free" or "democratic" though.

7. It's not the flag. It's what the flag stands for that's important
It stands for freedom, and that includes the freedom of speech, which includes the right to burn the fucking flag.

Nobody on any battlefield US soldiers fought on died for the flag. They died for what that flag represents, not the flag itself.

9. They're obviously
all ignorant about flag burning. Burning the flag is also the only proper way to dispose of it. You should never throw it away. This bill would also mean there can be no more tshirts, bandana's, teddy bears etc. since that's against the flag as well. Bush should also be arrested because he once wrote on the actual flag which is a big no-no. If he wanted to autograph the flag he should've the stick.

13. It's just a rag
How about protecting our troops and dropping this diversionary legislation. Tom DeLay is still lurking in the corridors hoping for something to distract everyone again so we don't get back to him. Why don't these people in Congress get to work and quit playing up all this bullshit legislation?

20. Flag Acts are so fucking cheesy.
Free speech issues aside, almost nobody burns the flag anymore so these neo-McCarthyite dickheads just look like clowns for whining about a non-existent "problem".

21. It's a meaningless vote...
It has to go to the Senate....That's where the votes count. This was jsut a little election day issue to trap a few unpatriotic Congressmen...Remember when you voted against the flag?? Huh?

23. If some of those southern democrats voted nay, they could
very well lose their jobs... its about survival, this act is a political stunt, and will get shot down by the courts.
