Poll question: What scandal will bring down this administration? |

Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 01:41 PM by iconoclastNYC
Ok boys and girls...place your bets. Which scandal leads to the resignation or removal of office of Chimpy and his Dark Lord Cheney.

1. Plenty of Choices... But... |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 01:38 PM by Stand and Fight
You left out one -- NOTHING.
For me, it is too early to tell. There has been so much dirt that has come up about these guys and nothing has stuck to date. However, I am holding out hope that the Iraq issue will not get swept under the rug in light of the DSM. At this point, I'm undecided but leaning toward the "nothing" option.

Look at his poll numbers. I think the DSM pics up traction and it starts a snowball effect....his poll numbers drop lower....the GOP stops propping him up....Congress starts to do its job (oversite)....the media feels less intimidated.
They impeached Clinton over a blowjob and this man was POPULAR. We have the power to create a movement to impeach him.
2008 Congressional elections could be run on.....Congressman x had the choice to say no to abuse of power with an impeachment vote and didn't....support y. Sen x had the chance to say no to abuse of power with a vote to convict and didn't, vote y.
We have the power to make this a reality.

When we take back the house in 2006 it will be easier for us to drive headlines becasue we'll be in control of the commitees, we'll have the power to subonea and call hearings.

But at this point I have to say that you're dreaming. The facts speak for themselves. These guys aren't coated in Teflon -- they're made of the shit.

18. What fact are you referencing? |
|
The fact that speaks for itself?
You've really bought into thier hype. The aura of invinsibility. By your logic nobody should have bothered to vote. Afterall everyone knew the wartime president was going to win big!
You exhibit some really obvious signs of learned hopelessness.

2. You forgot one option . . |
|
NOTHING will impeach him.
So many scandals have gone by already and nothing has happened. He may be a lame duck, but he doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

I honestly don't believe at this point that the majority of Americans give a crap enough to bring down the administration - even if they proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Bush personally masterminded the 9/11 attacks I don't think that enough people would notice or care to actually topple the administration.

I don't think it's our fellow Americans that are the problem -- the question is whether or not the Press would report the issue. I'm sorry, but I just don't think Americans would be able to tolerate that Bush masterminded 9/11. I think they'd have to keep the mob from ripping him and the rest of the bunch to pieces. I'm cynical about our chances of bring these douche-bags down, but not so cynical as to believe that.

12. I would have agreed with you at one point |
|
But the reality is that if the American people (en masse) demanded truth and more in depth information they'd get it, because there would be money in it for the media. But since Iraq I've been astonished by what people don't care about..
illegal war - don't care loss of traditional allies - don't care lied about reasons for war - don't care let 9/11 conspirators walk to avoid allowing european prosecutors into gitmo - don't care staggering debt - don't care all out assault on environment - don't care and on and on
I know that people here care, but the majority of Americans aren't here

I have not reached that level of cynicism yet. However, if Bush gets away with the lies in light of the DSM, you and I will be in the same boat.
 Maybe we can win, but we've got to stay objective to do so. Counting our eggs before they hatch certainly does not help.

vacuum doesn't' sound like a 'don't care' to me.
All you defeatist people forget that history is made. Trends are reversed. Movements are not born over night, they grow slowly at first and then reach a tipping point.
If your mode of thought was prevelant at the time the Vietnam war would never have grown...the American people didn't care.
The civil rights movement wouldn't have grown. White America doesn't care.
The new deal wouldn't have happened. Rich people don't care.
This creeping defeatism into our party is what has caused our leadersto under reach and our party gets tarred with being an 'also-ran' to the bold leadership offered by the republicans. it's a sad fact that most people don't ever know about policy. to a lot of people Republicans are strong and democrats are weak.
Don't you think the people who got Clinton impeached had doubt about their ability to accomplish their goal? Do you think they listened to those fears?
Optimism. Hope. Ambition. Boldness. This is what it's going to take for Dem's to regain power and set the agenda. Impeachment is going to be our coming out party.

|
Not my place to do that anyway, I'm in Canada and if I thought it was hopeless I wouldn't even be here. I'm just saying that the basic problem is that most don't care - more than MSM or vote fraud or anything else, the basic problem is that most Americans just don't seem to care about any of it.

But that's what a movement does. Raise conciousness, get people involved, reach critical mass, and strike when the iron is hot.

the CIA probably had the plans laid out and all it took was the 'right president' to give the ok.

It's reality. It's the truth. Sometimes the truth ain't pretty. It's especially not pretty when it is backed up with historical facts and trends. The question was what we thought would bring Bush down. Some people -- myself included -- simply don't think that he'll be brought down at this point in time. That doesn't make myself and others defeatist -- it just makes us cautious.
Being defeated is part of life. It is up to us to get back up and fight like hell...

I can see what you mean. Nothing wrong with being cautious. You're absolutely correct that we need to get back up and fight like hell. I know it's hard for some to remember, but we have to keep going at it and we can't let anything stand in our way. I tend to be more optimistic and patient than some.
People are getting very fed up with this administration. The news media is trying to change. I think it's starting to fall apart now. The teflon is starting to chip. The rubber stamp is starting to wear and tear. The ramrod is starting to rust. :)
I don't think it will be much longer now.

for a scandal we don't know about yet but I believe that the war in Iraq and 9/11 will be related to that scandal and, combined, will undo this regime - though not easily. IF gas hits $3 and the housing market bubble pops that could do it without another "scandal".
