Can you get behind Operation Yellow Elephant?
I can't decide if I can or not.

At first blush, it is amazingly creative and funny. It looks like a perfect way to shut up the young chickenhawks and expose them for what they are.

The thought that it might *really* goad some of them into enlistment also has some appeal, if it keeps some truly rational American home a bit longer while some of these fools are over there dodging or collecting bullets.

But I can't bring myself to really support it. I don't want ANYONE ELSE to join up for the Lie. I don't want the Yellow Elephants to go, I don't want the Bush twins to go, I don't want *anyone* else to go.

There is a fat chance that anyone targeted in this campaign would actually go and fight.. but there *is* a chance.

Will the good of politically bitchslapping the college Republicans outweigh the harm of our being complicit in the potential death of a future soldier? Or, the persons that they kill for the Bushes?

That is the quandry I face. I support a strong military. I support our troops. I was in the military. My daughter was in the military. My son-in-law re-inlisted with my blessing (pre-Bush).

I can't BEGIN to count the ways that Bush has hurt our military. Not only with the obvious ones... but the very fact that we now must starve the military beast because of his blind ambition and lies.

I am truly torn.

There is an old story about a life-long Democrat, who, upon his deatbed asked to be re-registered to the Republican Party.

When asked why, he replied that as long as someone had to die, it should be a Republican son-of-a-bitch.

Does this apply to Operation Yellow Elephant?

4. I'm not so sure I want to "join" the Yellow Elephant organization, but I
DO KNOW I want every last yellow-bellied, chickenhawk repuke to go to Iraq and put THEIR lives on the line. THEY support the cabal and their wars. Let THEM fight them. They aren't getting my son...EVER!

5. They had no qualms about helping to start this war.
I have no qualms about asking them to go die for it, or shut the hell up.

While I agree with you that I do not want ANYONE else go and die in Iraq I just can't help myself but support Yellow Elephant for this one and IMMUTABLE FACT:

There is no way, no how, even if Christ himself came down from above and begged, that any self-respecting college republican will enlist to go to Iraq. Haven't you heard of the "culture of life", man!!

I'm going to Vegas just to shove it up their asses and hopefully the press will cover it.

10. I pray you are correct, and you probably are.
If I ever get over the anxiety I developed about my son-in-law's potential for deployment to Iraq, I will be there joining you.

I am just not at the point where I want to wish it on anyone else.

15. Good point.
I am certainly not criticizing the OYE supporters. I do share your sentiments even if I can't fully support the cause.

9. It would be swell if we could all be kind all the time to all people.
But the fact is there are people who are not kind and want to benefit personally by sacrificing others. Those people, the neocons, are at war with us and they mean harm with everything they say and do. Can't be nice back. 'WELCOME' is NOT written across my back. They chose their philosophy, they can reap what they sow!

We gotta grid our loins and recognize the neocons and their flunkies are out to get everybody who will allow it. Do I feel bad if we goad some of them into putting up or shutting up? NOT ONE DAMN BIT!

My message to chicken hawks of all ages and those idiots who think wearing a flag pin and slapping a ribbon on the old gas burner is equal to really shouldering some civic responsibility:

13. Who was the DUer who called his local recriters and tipped them off
about an event where they would be thousands of strong, healthy, pro-GOP males and then gave them the time & place of a Promise Keepers rally? A stroke of absolute brilliance! We need to keep recruiters off the trail of impressionable teenagers and get them sniffing after grown ups who need to put up or shut up! I have no problem at all with that project.
