Good Charlotte, Green Day Get Ready To 'Rock Against Bush'
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 05:59 PM by Paragon
http://launch.yahoo.com/read/news.asp?contentID=214693

(9/23/03, 6 p.m. ET) -- Good Charlotte, Green Day, Sum 41, and several other punk rock bands will contribute songs to an album titled Rock Against Bush, which will be released through indie label Fat Wreck Chords next April or May. Green Day will donate a new song, but the other bands have not announced yet whether they'll submit new or previously released material.

Fat Wreck Chords president Fat Mike--who also sings for the punk band NOFX--says he wanted to use his influence in the punk rock world to campaign directly against George Bush, telling MTV.com, "I think it's our responsibility as citizens and musicians to do so. He's wrecking the country and the world...I'm planning on losing a lot of money, but I don't care. This is something I really believe in."

Two tours--one around the release of the album and the other closer to next year's presidential election--are also in the planning stages, most likely to consist of free concerts on college campuses. The tour will probably be named Punkvoter, after Fat Mike's political awareness organization.

Money from sales of the album will go into print and television ads encouraging young people to vote Bush out of the White House. Fat Mike told MTV.com he hopes to have "one or two famous punk rockers" appear in the ads.

3. If he can get the Dead Kennedys back together, I'll listen
But Good Charlotte just plain sucks. They could gob big chocolate loogies in Dubya's face and I'd still hate their shitty pop music masquerading as punk.

4. Stay on message, SZJ
We all know Good Charlotte (and to a lesser degree, Sum 41) sucks, but they're doing a good thing. Be happy.

8. Well if those two boy bands with guitars have the balls to do it...
..I'll give them props for it, but their music is still terrible. If the majority of the bands on this thing are like them, I'll just buy some NOFX merchandise instead.

7. Yes Good Charlotte are silly and non-threatening
but they sell tickets, if they can help draw people to concerts so the money can be used to fight Shrub, that is great.

Maybe they will help to get more young people registered and voting.

As for the Dead Kennedys reuniting--I hate reunions, they are a repulsive hybrid of nostalgia and capitalism.

9. My take on reunions is different in that I got screwed out of seeing them
the first time because my mother didn't have the decency to have me ten years earlier. History screwed my generation big time, and we want to see the bands we deserve to see.

11. Nostalgia for a time you did not even experience is very bourgeois
I'm just playing with you SZJ. :P My nihilistic past just won't leave me alone.

12. Let's hope Good Charlotte come up with a new "anthem"
an anti-Bush one that gets played over and over again on TV and the Radio like the original one.
