2. That was his "plan" all along..
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 03:02 PM by SoCalDem
He put forth the most objectionable idea, then spread the lies that "the dems have NO suggestions"..and then readily retreats when spineless dems come forward with "their plans"..and he's ready to "compromise"..

The real issue?? There is NO reason for any dem to even WANT to change it..

He briar patched them into "admitting that there's a problem"..and he's just the guy to "solve" them..:puke:

This is how repubes work.,. they are content to nibble at the edges, until they eventually eat the whole thing.. they are patient, and every time we give them a taste, they only get a bigger appetite

War jobs = Votes for a Culture of Death - Paychecks = Dead People.

Pro-Life is one of many Lies.

King George/Dick's secrecy about Defense Contracting is a halmark of his LACK OF RESPECT for Life.

6. All he needs is for a bill...
... to appear in Congress. From there, the `pug leadership will diddle with it in the dead of night in the conference committee and they'll get what they want. Or enough to eventually carry out their real intentions--killing SS.

Hate to be pessimistic, but, by now, that's SOP for these bastards.

9. Why else are they creating a bill that does nothing?
Doesn't create private accounts, doesn't do anything about solvency in the future, doesn't change benefits or retirement age. So what does it do?

I think you've hit the nail on the head. It will be stealth "reform."

15. Me too.
legislation that is claimed to do nothing is completely and totally suspect. As others have pointed out: this is a vehicle to trick Democrats into either putting forth something that actually does something (raise taxes, cut benefits, or delay retirement) and then use that against them in '06, or worse: jam odious shit into the conference version of intentionally different 'do-nothing' bills.

The fact that they can and have screwed the Democrats in conference repeatedly should be warning enough: just say no to any SS 'fix'.

13. And there will be quite a few concerned folks
right here on DU chiming in with 'yes lets raise the cap' or 'well we do live longer so we should raise the start age'.

It aint broke don't fix it. Fix the deficit, that is what's broken. Start with those billionaire tax cuts. Then we'll talk.
