I've never really felt the urge to Burn an American Flag
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 03:19 PM by Sandpiper
However, if the "Flag Burning Amendment" gets Congressional approval, I'm going to torch one of the damned things just as a matter of principle.

:grr:

1. Freedom of speech...
And if you look at the incredible desecration of the flag by the GOP these days, the flag doesn't seem to stand for much anymore, except corporate greed and wealthy fat corporate pigs like Bush.

3. That's just what they want...
The Repukes can say "see, they hate America just like we said."
Let them have their stupid ammendment. A burning protest would hurt us more than help.

4. Who cares what they say?
They also say we eat babies for breakfast.

Their saying we hate America doesn't mean we do, and if we get attention by burning flags, we get a chance to speechify on the glorious American ideal of free speech for all.

5. they give off so much smoke ...
A pain to clean up after (especially the nylon ones, which melt and stick).

Remember when "Doonesbury" did a cartoon on this several years ago, and included a facsimile of a flag "for burning" in protest against the amendment?

6. I won't burn one. But then again, I refuse to fly one anymore, either.
Not until the fascists are out of power and my country returns to some form of sanity.
