The point about burning the flag, to me, has nothing to do...
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 03:29 PM by Javaman
with the actual burning.

My feeling is: if you want to burn the flag, knock yourself out and have a high ol'time.

Because, if they ban this act, then anything else that can be misconstrued as being "anti-American" will be banned as well. Your right to free public Assembly? that would be the next to go, confronting ones own accuser? for get it. Trial buy jury? gone. (oh wait, they are giving that one a dry run in gitmo) and the list goes on and on.

It won't stop with the ban on flag burning.

Like the patriot act crap, it will be vaguely worded in some areas and open to abu gonzolez's(sp) interpretation. The simple utterance of disparaging words against the gov't, such as: They suck, will get you a week in jail.

mark my words, behold the white horse. Little do the freepers know but the "rapture" won't have anything to do with the end of the physical world, it will have everything to do with loss of our freedoms and returning to feudalism under dictatorial rule. Now if that's now a modern day rapture, I don't know what is.

1. I am getting so sick of this
I might just torch a few flags tonight. Then again I probably won't, then I will end up in Rummy's Gulag!!!

This is in violation to The First Amendment
Flag burning is protected by The First Amendment
I see the U.S. Constitution slowly disintegrating

3. Just my opinion, but a small penalty for flag burning
equal to that of jaywalking or a traffic ticket will give some weight to the civil disobedience of burning a flag as a political statement. Right now it's really not that much of a statement.

4. This vote is all about making the Republicans look like better patriots
than Democrats. That's all it's ever about. It has nothing to do with flags or fire or what veterans want at all. It doesn't even have anything to do with the First Amendment, because no one expects this to actually become law, and if it does, no one is really counting on it to pass muster with the Supreme Court. It is only about empty grandstanding.
