Huffington: Democrats are 'disgracefully silent' on Iraq/Rawstory
sorry if this was posted. I didn't see it

In an exclusive interview with RAW STORY, pundit and now-blogger Arianna Huffington bemoaned the media’s inability to focus on real news, offered thoughts on the blogosphere and journalism and rebuked Democratic leaders for not taking a stronger position on the Iraq war.

Huffington, a onetime right-wing pundit who departed the GOP with the demise of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, feels that Democrats are “beginning to find their voice” on Iraq, but had fighting words for Democratic leaders. The American people, she said, are still “waiting for the national leaders to speak out on Iraq.”

“The megaphone,” she said, “is with the national leaders, who have been disgracefully silent” on the matter of America’s continuing involvement with no clear exit strategy. She called a resolution introduced by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi last week to demand an exit strategy “tepid.”“They’re so cowed by war and obsolete consultants,” she added, “that the American people are so ahead of our leaders at the moment that it’s tragic.”

Huffington says Democrats need to “bring a sense of urgency to the issue, to speak unambiguously. It’s not a question of the resolutions of the amendment being introduced, but also putting pressure on the leadership, being outspoken on the talk shows, using the Internet, using the blogosphere to get the message out.” The blogosphere presents the opportunity for “obsessive precision with the topics,” a feature of blogging that she believes is not applicable to newspaper columns or books, she notes. Blogging allows a writer to focus on any topic, “from vaccines and autism to the Downing memo.”

2. Oh, Ariana! Whatever makes you think that the Demo leadership ...
will grow any spines?

No, it's up to the Democratic rank-and-file, and the many good progressive Americans who cannot stomach being in the Demo Party, to raise our voices on Iraq. Who knows? Maybe we can finally move the Demo leaders into acting like ... leaders.
