Stop John Bolton!

Tell George Bush to nominate a new UN Ambassador!

Last April, I wrote to you about President Bush's nomination of John Bolton to be U.N. Ambassador. Bolton is the wrong man at the wrong time for this critical job. I believe he will do serious harm to American diplomacy if he is confirmed.

In response to that letter, over 73,000 people emailed the White House urging President Bush to withdraw Bolton's nomination. Now, I am asking you to join with them so that President Bush hears this message, loud and clear.

Tell George Bush to send us a new UN nominee today!

On Monday, the Senate voted against ending debate on John Bolton's nomination for the second time because the Bush Administration has refused to provide critical information about Bolton's record -- information that the Senate has every right to review in order to fully carry out our "advice and consent" responsibility under the Constitution. We need to know whether John Bolton abused his position to spy on other Americans, bully intelligence analysts, and mislead Congress on matters of national security.

Why won't the White House respond to our legitimate requests for information?

What does John Bolton have to hide?

Despite the Senate's negative votes and tens of thousands of emails, George Bush is still stubbornly refusing to face reality. Showing his lack of respect for Congress, he has refused to release the information we requested. He has pressured Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist into promising yet another fruitless vote on Bolton. And, the president is even hinting that he may use a rarely-used recess appointment to send Bolton to the U.N. without Senate approval -- or any remaining credibility -- at all.

Send your own message to President Bush now, urging him to withdraw John Bolton's nomination!

John Bolton's nomination as UN Ambassador is dividing the country. This is a man who has shown nothing but contempt for the United Nations throughout his career. This is a man who has bullied intelligence analysts to try to get them to say what he wants, even when it's not true. This is a man who doesn't get along well with others and, if confirmed, would be entrusted with representing our nation in sensitive diplomatic negotiations at the United Nations.

Surely we can do better. Surely we can find a nominee for UN Ambassador that America can support and get behind, not someone who divides our country and alienates our allies.

Our only hope of success is to keep up strong grassroots pressure so that the President knows the nation is demanding change.

Please join with over 73,000 Americans to tell President Bush to send us a new nominee today!

In Friendship,

Barbara Boxer

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):
President George W. Bush

9. Boxer has some serious brass ovaries. She's going against JINSA
and that takes balls.

Would someone please tell JINSA that they don't speak for the Jewish Community? Lord have mercy.

This is like the Christian Coalition saying that not backing Ashcroft is offensive to the Christian Community. We can't let these right-wing groups keep hijacking our religions and pretending to speak for us! And I think that's precisely what Boxer is telling JINSA.

Barbara, We've got your back!!!

Bolton Delay Offensive to Jewish Community, Says JINSA

WASHINGTON, June 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The ongoing effort by John Bolton's Senate detractors to hold up his confirmation as UN ambassador is especially offensive to the Jewish community, the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs declared today.

"It was Bolton's determined leadership and diplomatic mastery that, in 1991, caused the United Nations to finally revoke one of its most outrageous resolutions - equating Zionism with racism," said JINSA executive director Tom Neumann. "It was a truly Herculean task, but Bolton succeeded where many predecessors had failed because he made the effort and took the time to engage the UN members one by one.

"The Jewish community will always be grateful," Neumann noted. "We should remind our elected representatives of that."

Neumann described the Senate delay as "a blatantly orchestrated effort to destroy a dedicated, highly qualified public servant. Bolton's career is an open book, his achievements a matter of record. His style is a mix of diplomacy and resoluteness, with a strong moral sense of right and wrong. There is no valid reason that he should not have been confirmed weeks ago.

"John Bolton at the UN would continue the proud, standup tradition established by our two foremost past UN ambassadors, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Jeane Kirkpatrick. The latter has warmly endorsed Bolton for the post, as have former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger, Senator John McCain, and many others who clearly understand the need for UN reform."

The Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs is an independent, non-partisan educational organization established in 1976 to educate the public on national and international security issues, including the importance of an effective U.S. defense capability and the key role of strategic allies to promote democratic values in the Middle East.

JINSA Report:

April 15, 2005
JINSA Report #484
Don’t Let Them Kill it in Committee

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has postponed its vote on whether or not to send the nomination of John Bolton for U.S. Ambassador to the UN to the Senate floor.

Why? Surely not because Senators need more information about Mr. Bolton’s government career; it’s an open book. Surely not because Senators need more information about some alleged personal impropriety; no one is alleging any. Surely not because Senators need more information about Mr. Bolton’s views of the UN and the role he believes it can and should play (or cannot and should not play) in international diplomacy; he has spent hours on that with them.

No.

Some Senators want the delay to buy time to change the vote of one Senator in hopes of killing the nomination in Committee - because it would pass on the Senate floor. This is similar to the tactic that has been successfully used to delay votes on federal judges. Opponents of Mr. Bolton are abusing the Advise and Consent function of the Constitution and inter alia dashing hopes for real reform of the UN and depriving Israel and its supporters of a strong ally in the fight for Israel’s legitimization in the international arena.

Supporters of Israel should insist that Mr. Bolton’s nomination move forward to a vote of the whole Senate and insist that it pass.

(snip)

Supporters of Israel should make it clear to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that we share Mr. Bolton’s skepticism about UN activities and capabilities. And that his principled positions on behalf of Israel, which are shared by the President who nominated him to the post, are positions that we share as well.

(snip)
