Predictions for Rehnquist replacement.
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 06:27 PM by longship
Bush wants a radical, but wants somebody that will be approved.
That could mean that he puts up a Senator (either past or present).
He could also put up a current Associate Justice, it may be Scalia or Thomas. If he does that, he'll still have to fill that vacancy.

I think he'll do the double trouble and appoint Scalia or Thomas as Chief Justice and appoint a real radical as Associate Justice.
I think Thomas will get the nod for Chief (exploiting race) and to replace him...

Here's my prediction, and he's a real stinker.
Ted Olson

Solicitor General and rabid rapture lunatic

2. I think he'll play the race card and nominate a Hispanic
that way he'll be able to put Dems on the spot for having to vote against a Hispanic (rightwing ideologue)..

In 06 the ads will revel in how this dem or that voted AGAINST a Hispanic..therefor they must be racist..

\The repubes love little games like this..:) Karl is wetting himself in anticipation of twisting the knife again:(

3. He'll go with Thomas
because he can say that anyone who is against Thomas for CJ is a racist.

4. Yes, he's been mentioned here
If * keeps putting up right radicals for various posts, then it should be clear that this is who he is. And that fact might be played up as the reason why he's such a complete and utter failure. * is out of the mainstream.

12. Yes, Barbara "The Thing" Olson.
That mealy-mouthed apparition which plagued the television screen during the 2000 recount.

15. Barbara Olson and the Clintons. She appeared on tv more than any
other person to rant against the Clintons - perhaps more than any other person. She was Pres of the Intl Women's Forum - the group that launched Michelle...the sister association to the Federalist Society whose member, Ted Olson, works diligently for the destruction of the parts of the Constitution and B of R that make us who we are supposed to be = citizens of a democracy.

I cannot bear to look at him or listen to him. Listening to his former wife was equally painful.

18. I agree about both of them.
But by putting up Thomas for chief they have the race issue to play.
By putting up lily-white Olson to replace Thomas, they play to the lily white rapture rights. As a bonus they can play the 9/11 victim card. Another bonus is that he's solicitor general. (Can't remember if that's a Senate advise and consent office.) It's a perfect nomination for *.

If * is trying to screw everybody royally, it'll be Olson.

25. He left the Solictor-General position about 1 to 1 1/2 years ago. I never
heard a reason. Probably money. Probably did what he was required to do by the Fed Soc - lock it all up for the Repubs and their takeover. Ah, I speculate once more today.

16. Alberto "Torture" Gonzalez
He is Hispanic, so the pukes can paint us as racist if we object, and since he was confirmed for AG (thanks Landrieu (LA), Lieberman (CT), Nelson, Ben (NE),Nelson, Bill (FL), Pryor (AR), Salazar (CO)) the pukes can feign outrage if he is opposed now. And besides, we've got Joementum on our side, which means we don't have a chance of stopping him.

Ted Olsen- Ewwww. That gave me chills.

23. Not Gonzalez
He's too moderate for the anti-choice crowd.

He could nominate Olsen. The little turd argued the Bush side in Bush v. Gore. Time for a big reward for that one. :puke:

Is he even a lawyer? (not qualified)

20. Scalia for Chief. Olson or Gonzales for Associate.
Scalia has put in his time and is more respected by everyone in the legal community than Thomas. Scalia has been a force on the Court; Thomas has been a poodle. I'm guess Gonzales would be *'s first choice for associate, but he'll nominate Olson so he can keep Gonzales as AG.

And we'll soon be hearing about an appeal from somewhere that could put a gigantic dent in Roe v. Wade and another one that will rewrite federalism as we've known it for the past 70 years.

22. I don't think Scalia would stand for it
if Thomas got the nod over him for CJ. Even if he accepted the politics of it he is still a petty little jerk who wouldn't be able to deal with it.

24. That *would* be interesting.
* appoints Thomas as Chief and Olson as Associate.
Scalia has a crybaby fit and resigns.
* says, "Okee-dokee, I get another appointment."
* appoints ??? (yet another rapture right lunatic).
