To the 70% of "Americans" who believe it's ok for us to do what Saddam did
70% of "Americans" believe it's ok to indefinitely detain people with no charges, no access to lawyers, no trials; and gee, that's exactly what the oh-so-moral "Americans" used as part of their excuse to cheerlead the attack of a sovereign nation.

Response from those 70% "Americans" from Pat, a TRUE AMERICAN;

"Seven-out-of-10 Americans, in other words, think it is all right to hold a person indefinitely without access to legal assistance, contact with family or the outside world, or any opportunity to fight the charges. Seven-out-of-10 Americans.

And they'll keep on feeling like this until the American Gestapo shows up on their doorsteps one day and trundles them away for whatever trumped up reason ... maybe because they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Only by then it will be too late to reconsider their poll responses.

Why can't Americans get it through their thick heads that democracy means having respect for all humanity and respect for the rule of law?

Why can't they understand that if they condone what we do at Gitmo to others, they might as well condone doing it to their fellow Americans right here at home?

And why CAN'T they bring themselves to allow these prisoners of ours full access to the legal system? What are they afraid of? That 90% of these prisoners are going to come off as completely innocent? In my opinion, that's what's at the nub of things here.

How rotten has a society gotten when it doesn't want to extend legal recourse to people because it fears they might be innocent after all? The whole rotten house of cards collapses on that argument ..."

-Pat

REMEBER, YOU WERE OK WITH IT when it's YOUR TURN, 7-in-10 "Americans".

1. "First they came for the Communists..."
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.

2. I've thought that the Democrats
should compare Bush to Saddam, not Hitler, etc. because it is a fitting comparison as far as human rights are concerned.

And yes, the percentage of sheeple in this country that think that torture is A.OK in their book. Can't they understand that it makes us look like fools when we talk about "freedom" and "democracy" while we torture their people. Even if there isn't ANY torture going on, and Gitmo is the ClubMed the repukes claim it is, we owe it to "democracy" to make that process transparent, and ensure that we bring FORMAL charges against all prisoners, and proceed with trials, etc. In no way can we afford to practice torture, because even the suggestion that it might be occuring discredits our leaders, our country, and our morals.

what you do not want others to do unto to you.

I am sure all is aware of this saying
And when you look around and see what Chimp has done in your name then you know how you have been totally utterly screwed by him.

Remember that and the world will be less of a quandary.

5. Democracy is over rated
First you have to have a government with laws establishing human rights and the rights of all citizens and a judicial system to enforce it.

Only then does democracy mean anything.
