HAHAHAHA What the Fuck??? Bush "tried to volunteer" for Vietnam???
While doing my daily S&M (more M than S) today and browsing through Bushbot forums, I noticed something I ain't ever paid attention to before:

Bush TRIED TO VOLUNTEER for Vietnam.

I think I've seen this in the past, but chalked it up to a peculiar form of Conservative Schizophrenia the poster was likely suffering from.

But this seems to be a talking point. I shit you not.

What the hell is up with this jive?

:wtf:

1. Jive, lies, delusional, dumb as hell-- take your pick
It's ludicrous, of course, but if it concerns that bastard,
you know it's going to be way out in left field...

4. Why do they have to LIE? Why do they have to PHOTOSHOP?
Why do they have to launch personal attacks against messengers and ignore the message?

The only time people do that is when they know they got nuthin'.

All he needed to do was mark the form that he was
willing to go overseas, but his preference was not for foreign duty. So, it's another BUllSHit lie.

5. Yeah... he tried, but all those "black folk" kept him out
Just like Tom Delay!

According to the Houston Press in 1999, DeLay tried to blame minorities for his lack of military experience saying, "so many minority youths had volunteered for the well-paying military positions to escape poverty and the ghetto that there was literally no room for patriotic folks" like him.

Oh, brother! :eyes:

8. Funny how Clark joined up one state up and didn't have to
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 11:16 PM by Clark2008
worry about those minorities! All those "minorities" must have been working at the very MOMENT Clark enlisted!

What about Kerry - dang... he got right in! Must have been that "Kennedy" pull. You know those Massachusetts libruls!

Or, shit, what about Max Cleland! How many minorities had to stay stateside JUST so Max Cleland could get three-quarters of his limbs bombed off.

*gets out waders*

Yep, he said this shit and people believed it. :eyes:

7. Bush and DeLay both volunteered to go to Viet Nam. These coveted slots
were filled by selfish minorities instead of by deserving Anglo applicants. This was one of the first cases of affirmative action being used to discriminate against deserving privileged white males.<sarcasm>

"I do not volunteer for overseas."

Chickenhawk n. A person enthusiastic about war, provided someone else fights it; particularly when that enthusiasm is undimmed by personal experience with war; most emphatically when that lack of experience came in spite of ample opportunity in that person’s youthhttp://www.symbolman.com/chickenhawks.html

14. The story runs something like this.
Air National Guards weren't activated for Vietnam duty. But a volunteer program was set up to have qualified F102 pilots go to Vietnam and other places. They'd have to have finished training and have 500 hours flight time.

By the time * was finishing his training, the program ("Palace Alert") was "winding down."

Bradley, serving with * in the TANG, apparently told a conservative writer that four of the TANG pilots wanted to volunteer. Nobody's claimed * signed the paperwork; nobody's disputed that he wanted to go, but nobody's come forward to confirm it, either. There aren't many that could.

The commander apparently said that * and one other of the purported volunteers didn't qualify. The other two were accepted, pretty much the last of the Tx pilots accepted into the program. By the time * and his fellow pilot were trained and qualified, it was a moot point. The program was closed.

* has been quoted, in response to whether he "volunteered or enlisted" to go to Vietnam, as answering 'no'. Whether that refers to initial enlistment or over all, I can't say: I'd have to see the context.

Pro-* people boast that he volunteered. Anti-* people revel in the "no" answer during the interview, and the check on the initial enlistment form saying * didn't volunteer for overseas duty. (The most odd fact I've come across googling this was that Lloyd Bentson, Jr, apparently got his son into the TANG, and his son and * joined the TANG on the same day, and later were promoted on the same day.)

18. Ah so that's what it is?
Fascinating, indeed!

He could pull enough strings to be the man with the lowest IQ ever to make his way up to Presidency, and twice -- despite winning less votes the first time around (and probably the second as well), and messing up the country royally.

Somehow that political thriftiness wasn't enough to get him to Vietnam during draft time, when he was of prime draft age.

19. and yet he gets credit for "working hard" to volunteer, I suppose

How odd that if Georgie wanted to do this, he didn't plunk himself down in his CO's office and wheedle, beg, and demand that he be allowed to go? Or better yet, call his father (a powerful person who'd been a combat pilot himself in WWII) and ask him to arrange for him to be posted overseas?

Surely Mr. Bush, even at that tender age, was quite aware of how to appeal to those in power -- and how to kick up a fuss. (They didn't call him "The Lip" at Andover for nothing.)

I wonder if the alleged other guy was James Bath?

16. Fuck..he couldn't even fly, he took all the training and wouldn't piss in
the bottle.

He knew he'd flunk for (probably) so many reasons; alcohol, cocaine, grass. They're pretty much serious about that.

You don't fly if you're a druggie. Even in the 'Nam era.

What rot...he volunteered.
