"Vietnam was a better situation than Iraq."
Patrick Lang, the former chief at the Defence Intelligence Agency for the Middle East, south Asia and counter-terrorism, who served as an intelligence officer in Vietnam, observes:

"For almost all of the war, Vietnam was a better situation than Iraq. During the conduct of the war the security situation was far better than this." The Iraqi elections are "irrelevant to the outcome of the war because the people who voted were the people who stood to gain".

2. While staggering, it was the "lesser of two evils" imho.
As a vet, I'm second to none in appreciating the political and humanitarian disaster of the Viet Nam War and it's aftermath. The Bushoilini "War on Terra" is worse ... NOT from the perspective of the 'troops'(!) but from the perspective of people everywhere who yearn to be free.

4. I think bush's war on terra is worse for us, too.
The entire world despises us now, and we have truly shown what hollow meaningless empty words our "beacon of democracy" and our "moral high ground" and our so-oft vaunted respect for the rule of law and fairness and the Geneva Accords are.

Now the world knows that's all total bullshit. Just "blah blah blah".

It'll be generations before America can cry foul for anyone capturing our troops and violating their GC protections. So for generations, our troops are far less safe.

No one wants our "democracy", because they can easily see for themselves what total bullshit our "democracy" is.

bush lauded Aznar, Spain's former President, for his "spreading democracy"...by his having ignored the vast will of his own citizens (90%) who OPPOSED being part of bush's "coalition" to attack Iraq.

Ignored 90% of his own citizens! And bush called that "spreading democracy"! bush did the same with Italy's president, whose citizens were over 90% opposed.

He did it with -don't forget!- Poland, whose government publicly admitted they joined bush's "coalition" for "access to the oil". At least Poland was honest about it, even if they did ignore 65% of their own citizens to "spread democracy" to invade another nation for their oil.

bush has also shown to the entire world what a paper tiger the US is.

I don't think our fake Tonkin incident and 'Nam engendered this much dislike and contempt towards us.

3. From a sheer PR standpoint, Vietnam was comparably a walk in the park
Vietnam didn't make the rest of the world hate us and piss away unprecedented pro-American post-9/11 sympathy.

We could've pretty much done anything we wanted in a positive manner and the world would've been behind us. Instead, we thumbed our collective noses at them and bombed a country that there was absolutely no strategic reason to bomb.
