Oxymoron? Kerry And The Confederate Flag?
LOL. I've seen plenty of cars with rebel flags and Bush stickers in Alabama, but never have I see a Kerry sign on top of a Confederate flag. I bet it was a plant.

1. Racists can be draft age, too.
And, well, that was inflamitory. Funny, I think, but inflamitory. If we're going to stand behind Dean's "I want to be the candidate for guys with confederate flags on the back of their pickup trucks," then we should be willing to stand behind whatever else is out there. All Big Tent talk aside, in politics. . . there's no tent size limit on a voting block.

2. Dean explained he meant not to write off the south.
The question I would have is whether Kerry (or another Democrat) could win Alabama in say the next 20 years, if they compaigned there. I have never been to Alabama, but I would bet that a Democrat would have a much better shot at getting the vote of a driver who doesn't have a confederate flag on their car.

The question I would have is whether there are people who go to the trouble of putting a confederate flag on their car who are not racist, but perhaps love southern traditions. It may be that a confederate flag is as good a predictor of voting for Bush as a rainbow colored peace symbol might be of someone voting against Bush. In which case Dean's comment may be wishing for something that will not ever happen.

3. Some Democrats could win the South. Not Kerry.
And honestly, not Hillary, either. I don't think we're going to see another Northeastern Democrat in the White House for a very, very, very long time. Really, who was the last NE Democrat that won the Presidency? Kennedy. Think about that. Kennedy.

In the interum, we've run Dukakis (Mass Governer), Kerry (Mass Senator) and Al Gore who, despite being from Tennesse and living most of his life in D.C., was painted by the right wing as a NE Liberal because he didn't have a funny accent like certain other Connecticut-raised Presidential candidate Texan impersonators I could name from 2000.

That's one of the reasons I like Edwards. I may not always agree with him, but he can charm the pants off of the Bible Belters.

5. Egh... kinda true.
I know quite a few NASCAR dads that voted for Kerry. Mainly because they were in unions.
