Well, they've gone and done it now...
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 11:30 AM by EarlG
Any guesses on how the pro war crowd will try to spin this information?

**************************************************************

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The CIA believes the Iraq insurgency poses an international threat and may produce better-trained Islamic terrorists than the 1980s Afghanistan war that gave rise to Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda, a U.S. counterterrorism official said on Wednesday.

A classified report from the U.S. spy agency says Iraqi and foreign fighters are developing a broad range of deadly skills, from car bombings and assassinations to tightly coordinated conventional attacks on police and military targets, the official said.

Once the insurgency ends, Islamic militants are likely to disperse as highly organized battle-hardened combatants capable of operating throughout the Arab-speaking world and in other regions including Europe.

Fighters leaving Iraq would primarily pose a challenge for their countries of origin including Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

1. There's only one way TO spin this
Iraq was not a terrorist state before we went in there. This invasion has been a miserable failure.

24. Oh, that's not the only way. Consider what this means for Bush
"Better to fight them there than on the streets here."

They will take this statement and say that as long as they are being drawn there, so therefore we are able to fight them all in one area.

Expect some rhetoric about our enemies being "in their last throwes" and how they are "on the run"...

Essentially, they will spin this as further evidence of the shit they have been slinging for the last two years.

18. I actually have read this response
already. That the CIA is a liberal front out to destroy America! They are serious, some people out there actually believe this now all because the CIA had the nerve to claim that things aren't peachy in Iraq.

35. Some people will believe anything especially if they think
it some how justifies what they so desperately need to justify, because the facts and truth can't back them up.

4. Link? Because that's some pretty shocking testimony there and I'd
hate for it to be a skit and not an actual story.

Bin Laden won prominence as a U.S. ally in the war against Soviet troops in Afghanistan. He later used Afghanistan as the training center for his al Qaeda network, which is blamed for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on Washington and New York.

That bold part is amazing. Are the spooks LI/MIHOP'ers?

16. Here's how they will spin it (mark my words):
"We were right to go into Iraq, because see? It IS the world's biggest training camp for terrorists. We have to stay and finish the job."

And the uninformed will nod gravely, lacking long-term memories for anything in the larger world except sports scores and celebrity bios. Not having remembered (or noticed) that accusations about Iraq and 9/11 were lies, they will go around telling their neighbors, "We were right to go into Iraq, because see? It IS the world's biggest training camp for terrorists. We have to stay and finish the job."

The insurgency is in its "last throes"

30. ..after they wring their hands in glee seeing war profits for decades.
They'll keep quiet, silent, we're taking no quiestions, haven't talked to the president about every article ever written.

Then, when the shiites et al hit the fan around the world, they'll let us know we have to invade more countries to fught the war on terra.

All the while they take their small unfulfilled lives to bigger banks to associate with people they never really like.

34. Well, it figures...
If we mess with them long enough, they will get better and recruit more troops to their cause. The WH is trying to spin that the insurgency is in its last throes, and that they can't fight back well and my thought is this...well, they may not be fighting back well, but they are strapping bombs to themselves and blowing people away, how dedicated is that? In order to stop this insurgency, you will have to wipe them all out, and taht is impossible. The russians tried that in Afghanistan, and we tried it in Vietnam, and now we are trying it again in Iraq, and we are failing to achieve, what GWB wanted, control of the country. Its just sad that our troops are over there, getting wasted for a lie....later, Don.
