It was a decision fraught with huge implications for a country with many areas, particularly the rapidly growing urban and suburban areas, facing countervailing pressures of development and property ownership rights.

The 5-4 ruling represen

9. You are right, nothing new at all here.
Eminent domain has always been. Bush used it to get his stadium for the Texas Rangers.

This all comes down to your state's eminent domain law. If your state's law says the state or local government can do it even for private development, then they can. Some do, some don't. Anyone pissed at the Supreme Court should be pissed at their state legislatures and local governments.

By the way, some people also seem to miss the fact that the property owners receive fair compensation, usually FMV. In most contested cases, they get higher than market price. I have worked these cases, there is nothing shocking here.

6. Tear houses down to build new houses?
It doesn't make sense. Unless you're the guy selling
the new houses.

7. Oh, It Makes Perfect Sense
Throw out those pesky poor and elderly people... raze those houses.

Build new condominium complexes that sell for $750,000 each.

BIG $$$$$$$

Just like every other damn thing, it all comes down to BIG $$$$$$.
