Dems Need To Shut Down The Senate re Rove's Comments!!!
They need to shut it down until Rove apologizes or is fired by Bush. As a compromise (after several days of NO Senate business being advanced) they will be willing to allow business to go forward after the Senate passes a unanimous Senate Resolution condemning Rove's attacks. Any repug senator votes against such resolution, then the Senate remains closed for business. Period.

That's the only way I can see our side garnering as much attention to this outrage as the regugs did their phony outrage at Durbin's comments.

Just writing a letter and asking for an apology won't do it. They need to shut the place down, it is the only power we have!

3. Paying attention to
republican distractions might not be in our best interest. Keep your eyes on the prize. Bush is vulnerable on the war in Iraq and the DSMs right now. Rove is merely trying to take your attention elsewhere.

4. Like hell! That is what the Kerry camp said during the Swift Boat ads!
A charge like this left unanswered is a charge believed. Dems can't answer this charge just by writing a letter, we won't get enough coverage of our outrage (given the current media environment). DRASTIC action must be taken to garner that attention and the only tool that comes to mind is shutting down the Senate.

14. I think we can use this to our advantage
because Rove's comments are central to those topics.

"liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."

Thanks to the kind correction made by the gentleman who commented just below. I had read the other statement that I posted before on another DU thread -- just shows to go you.

"liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."

Jesus, all you had to do is read the article on the front page of DU rather than just spew out some bullshit...how hard is that?

This will give you the direct quote rather than what that person above just mis-posted.

8. Our Senators Need To Be Out There Spreading The Word
On the Senate Floor, In Public, Media, everywhere they can, this is all they should speak of... Make an issue of it, this is despicable...

12. Don't hold your breath ...
the only time Dems raise a stink about "questionable" comments is when another Dem says them. Sure, the usual group of "Dems with a backbone" (Conyers, Kennedy, Boxer, etc.) will probably speak up, but in the end, Repugs always get a free pass. :eyes: :-(

15. This is a dumbass idea.
I mean, really. I suppose then that you would also support the Republicans shutting down the Senate for another Durbin or Dean? That would be the effect.

Plus, doing so makes us look like the obstructionists Republicans are trying to frame us as because it will seem a lame reason for shutting the government down to the public at large. They MIGHT could have justifiably shut down the government over the nuclear option... MIGHT, and it was still a risk. This one, though, is nowhere near that level.

Now, I'm not saying we should take this "traitor talk" lightly. But we must find other ways of making our point in these cases.

17. Who said anything about shutting down the government?
YOu don't know what you are talking about. I'm talking about shutting down the Senate.

Gee, we shouldn't do something because the Republicans will say bad things about us. Boy, that's some logic you are applying. Did you run the Kerry campaign?

16. My letter to CNN
Karl Rove made the following comment regarding "liberals and 9/11/01":

"liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."

He should be ordered to apologize immediately by President Bush. This makes a lie out of two things that President Bush promised.

First, The President promised to be "uniter and not a divider" and having a member of his inner circle make such a hate-filled remark is the most divisive thing that could possibly happen. It does NOTHING to bridge the divides in our nation and only stirs the hatred and resentment. This may eventually lead to violence if not curbed.

Second, the President promised to "change the tone" in Washington. He must stand by his promise and refuse to let any member of his staff perpetuate the tone, the rhetoric of divisivness.

It's time for the President to quit taling about his leadership and start practicing it: Step in and tell Rove that he will not tolerate this kind of rhetoric from his side and challenge the Democrats to follow suit. If he refuses it will be a failure of leadership.
