By not opposing a military coup by the great Augusto Pinochet against a Chilean Marxist, Salvador Allende, the Times implied, the U.S. was party to a terrorist act similar to the 9-11 attack on America. This is how the Times describes Pinochet's 1973 coup: "A building – a symbol of the nation – collapsed in flames in an act of terror that would lead to the deaths of 3,000 people. It was Sept. 11."

Allende was an avowed Marxist, who, like Clinton, got into office on a plurality vote. He instantly hosted a months-long visit from Castro, allowing Castro to distribute arms to Chilean leftists. He began destroying Chile's economy at a pace that makes Gray Davis look like a piker. No less an authority than Chou En-lai warned Allende that he was pursuing a program that was too extreme for his region.

When Gen. Pinochet staged his coup against a Marxist strongman, the U.S. did not stop him – as if Latin American generals were incapable of doing coups on their own. And – I quote – "It was Sept. 11." Parsed to its essentials, the Times' position is: We deserved it.

24. It does feel that way - until citizens say enough in a unified voice

which I believe we are learning to do more of, keep in mind it is going to take some time to change things.

The way to change that is for us all to work to influence those individuals around us and invite them to talk about issues and politics. A lot of individuals are very inhibited to talk about issues and I think we need to find ways to make it so tabu. All citizens to realize that activism is no longer a choice but a requirement and that we must all take part somewhere in our government and our political community to change this directions.

...on people like Coulter is that they don't get any blow back at all from their outrageous statements in the mainstream media, and there's really no liberal media that gets to contradict them to an audience as broad as the one the mainstream media gives them. So he says the result is that Coulter and friends go around with each trying to say something more outrageous than the next. It's a big joke for Coulter when she writes or says something like this.

She may or may not believe what she says and writes. However, she will continuously push the limit because there's nothing pushing back at her from the left (or holding her accountable from the center), and she's got her peer group all pushing each other into increasingly outrageous ejaculations.
