Newspapers find a way to deny their circulation is in decline.
Leading Research Firm Urges Newspapers to Combine Print/Online Numbers

NEW YORK An analysis by Scarborough Research released today using a new measurement it calls Integrated Newspaper found that newspaper websites are contributing significant numbers of readers who do not necessarily read the printed publications, resulting in larger audiences overall. As expected, it found that audiences for newspaper Web sites tend to be younger than those of the printed newspaper.

So,lets review. Newspapers lie and refuse to report actual news, and their circulation plummets like a stone. So, instead of trying some actual reporting now they have a way make it look like people actually read their worthless publications. Gee, is this supposed to make me trust them more?

1. Oh here is the trick the local rag tried on us
they started delivering the paper... honest, when I called them

"this is a preview subscription."

"don't you think if I wanted your rag I would ahem subcribe to it?"

"well this is a preview subscription for you to see the paper."

"No it is not, thanks for the cage paper, but I don't read your rag, even free it is not worth the price, stop padding your circulation numbers with cheap stunts..."

"But, but..."

"Your rag is a right wing propaganda sheet, I don't want it, stop as of tomorrow or you will hear from my lawyer."

Click

honest to goodness paraphrase with the local rag.

3. Our local paper had a fight with the union
even though it was a 'free' paper, union supporters would put a sign on their lawn saying
"We do not accept deliveries of XXX newspaper. Any attempt to deliver will be treated as littering and reported to the police."

4. I work for a small town paper...
... and to falsely boost our subscription we have created what is called the "Today Section" which is essentially the classifieds with all of the ads in it. We run roughly double the circulation of the newspaper and them send it out to all the people in the county who do not subscribe.

I hope the publisher gets busted for that shit soon.
