instead of demanding apologies, let's bring back dueling at 10 paces |
|
first the insult, then the demand for an apology, then the refusal, then the symbolic slap across the face with silken gloves, then the challenge to the duel, then the choosing of the weapons, then the loading of the pistols, and the ten paces and the turnaround, and see once and for all, who has the most integrity, the most honor, who supports the troops the most and who is the most patriotic.
it COULD work in our favor.

3. Believe it or not, this has already happened in US history |
|
In the 1850s, as a result of the increasing polarization over slavery, a great many members of Congress began coming into the Capitol armed with pistols, bowie knives, and what have you. In fact Massachusetts senator Charles Sumner was almost beaten to death on the floor of the Senate by South Carolina congressman Preston Brooks.

duelling was always the first recourse of the Southern Conservative (the cowardly shot-in-the-back being a close second). Northern liberals weren't that good at it.
On the other hand, according to the Code Duello, the challenger has the honor of choosing the weapons. Provoke the conservative hothead into challenging you and you can have an advantage.
Abraham Lincoln was once challenged to a duel. He chose to fight with cavalry broadswords, which, because of the length of his arms, gave him an advantage over his opponent. The affair was resolved peacefully.
