9/11 families to Karl Rove: Stop trying to reap political gain from 9/11!
As families whose relatives were victims of the 9/11 terror attacks, we believe it is an outrage that any Democrat, any Republican, any conservative or any liberal, stakes a "high ground" position based upon the September 11th death and destruction. Doing so assumes that all those who died and their loved ones would agree. In truth, some would and some would not. By definition the conduct is divisive and, because it is intended to be self-serving and politicizes 9/11, it is offensive. We are calling on Karl Rove to resist his temptations and stop trying to reap political gain in the tragic misfortune of others. His comments are not welcome.

28. It's going to take more than that...
From James Kroeger's http://taxwisdom.org/republican_nemesis.htm">The Republican Nemesis:

"Republican strategists know they would rarely win if election results were always determined by a logical discussion of The Issues and nothing more (they know that most voters would benefit more from Democratic economic policies than from Republican policies). They know they must win the IMAGE CAMPAIGN to have any chance of winning. That is why they are committed, now and forever, to negative campaigning. Republicans have never forgotten a key stratagem they perfected during the Reagan Era: DEMONIZING YOUR OPPONENTS WORKS."

"The most important reason why negative campaigning has worked so well for the Republicans is because their negative attacks on the Democrats create a positive impression of Republican candidates, who appear---in contrast---to be individuals who do not possess the defects that they have accused others of having. They define themselves by defining their Democratic opponents. On a visceral level, what the Republicans actually “stand for” in the minds of Swing Voters on election day is that they are not Democrats---those defective people who seem to have been born to ruin everything..."

http://taxwisdom.org/republican_nemesis.htm">The Republican Nemesis really is must-reading for any Democrat. We can bring down Rove and his gang, but we're going to have to do it together.

Linette

This goes to the home page. I'm bookmarking it as this looks to be a really interesting site, it seems to be about the wisdom of the progressive income tax. When I googled it, The Republican Nemesis (print friendly version) came up about 6th. Linette had http// showing twice on the link she had posted.

4. As a New Yorker, I was outraged a long time ago
Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11. They exploited NY by holding their convention here, and have never missed an political opportunity to exploit NY and 9/11. George Bush got the least number of votes in NYC of any sitting president, ever. Why???? Maybe because we know a con artist when we see one? Sorry, this get my blood boiling all over again.

I know one man who jumped to his death on 9/11 from Cantor Fitzgerald, one little girl who lost both her parents, and teacher who lost her husband. I know two men who narrowly escaped with their lives. That these horrible people use the dead for their political agenda and then call for "culture of life" and moral values, is sickening.

This administration is despicable, but Rove saying this does not surprise me in the least.

11. The simpletons...
You're right about everything you said. Unfortunately, the typical Bush voter was too naive to see past that exploitation. These are the people Rove went after to elect Bushy for a 2nd term. He knew the educated voters wouldn't vote for him, only the uneducated. Basically, we have a simpleton elected by simpletons!

32. It is disgusting
And makes one sick. Nobody should ever use it for their own gain. I agree. What made me sick is how the city protested Bush and the RNC coming to NYC but nobody listened to them but did whatever they wanted anyways just so they could exploit 9/11. Their whole convention was 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, Saddam Hussein is evil, 9/11, 9/11, smear John Kerry, 9/11, 9/11. They couldn't run on anything else because they have nothing else.

two years ago...what happened to those people and the friends and families that have to live with the consequences. I don't have anyone or know anyone that lost their lives..but I am sorry they have to continue going through this with the politicization of 9/11. I see what the Democrats are doing but with how hard-headed Karl Rove and clan are it's only going to get worse. To all that have lost someone on that day...I wish you all the best and hope this doesn't continue unless its for the better and not for the political gain of politicians..green, independent, democratic or republican.

...I don't think their statement goes nearly far enough. "Resist his temptations?" "His comments are not welcome?" That's wussy language if I've ever heard it. This is like pissing on the memories of their loved ones and that's all they can muster? They should be demanding a public apology AND resignation at the very least.

The statement includes Democrats, and everyone else, none of whom have stooped to the level of using 9/11 as the Republicans have.

I remember when the NYC firefighters objected to the Rep. Ad. using the coffin of one of their fallen firemen. Hundreds of thousands of NYers marched against Bush during the RNC convention, and many objected publicly to his use of 9/11 for political purposes.

Some of the families support Bush, but thousands of family members do not! That statement in no reflects the feelings of the mother I know, a democrat, who lost her daughter that day.

I don't know why they did not address the perpetrator, Karl Rove, directly. Why mention other groups? When someone does wrong, you don't include everyone else who might be thinking about it when you go after them. Rove is the wrong-doer here, he is the one they should have addressed.

I hope we hear from more of the families. I know for a fact that many of them suspect that Rove et al had something to do with 9/11 and must be outraged by his vicious attack on Democrats.

Edited to say, I'm glad they addressed the issue, I just wish they kept the focus on the guilty party.

:scared: hey, I'm just speculating what Rove and Cheney would tell the families of those who lost loved ones on 9/11. Of course, they would NEVER say this to their faces, but behind their backs you know in your heart of hearts that this is EXACTLY what they're saying.

They only care about 9/11 for political and monetary gain. They've rode it all the way to a second term and they and their pals have stolen Billions from the Treasury because of it.

If the families of those who died on 9/11 are hoping for the GOP to stop cashing in on their grief, they'll be waiting forever. The GOP ghouls will continue to use 9/11 for their own selfish purposes until it is no longer useful for them. They're scum. Greedy, lying, vicious, backstabbing scum. :grr:

19. Too true!
Rove and his ilk could give a shit less what anyone says about their ham-fisted free-for-all power hungry game of grabass. They're gonna do what they want when they want as often as they want, and no matter who complains or how stacked the cards become against them, they know that they've got the power and that's all that matters at the end of the day. As evident by Rove's offensive remarks and the general fuck you attitude that the GOP has been showing the voice of dissent lately, there's no way that they can be stopped and they know it. Revolution, methinks...

38. Its a sad day...
When people have to use the 9/11 card. The terrorists didn't attack republicans that day, and they didnt' attack democrats, they attacked the USA. To use the deaths, of 3,000 Americans, who on that dreadful day, went to work as usual, and had no clue that their deaths were hours away. For anyone, to use this 9/11 ploy is cheap, not worth a damn, and just plain damn rude.

Karl Rove should be ashamed of himself, but like any other Republican, he will claim, its the truth, or prove me wrong. The RW side seems to make huge, insane rationalizations of the Liberals/Democrats all the time, and they get away with it. Just the other day, I was defending Dean, from a RW from Ark, she kept saying what he said is bad, and he is the DNC, he shouldn't be doing that. I responded by saying, President Bush/Dick Cheney said worse things about democrats/liberals during last years election, that would make what Dean just said last week, seem very very small. But of course, i'm wrong, she is always right, i just freaking love it.

Of course she will defend Rove by saying "Its true"...Typical mindless drivel. But to each their own, peoples opinions vary, and its just sad. And by the way, Rove you are one sick man, to use the deaths of 3,000 Americans in such a way, you are a sick sick man.

later, Don.

49. Only one party uses it as a mantra
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 11:41 AM by pazarus
The Republicans have used it for everything. They use it daily. Their use of 9/11 has defined the entire Bush years. Nothing they have done has come without some mention of 9/11 and how they are the ones who will never forget.

The Democrats have occasionally (not nearly enough) criticized the Republican handling of the situation, and have accepted endorsements from people, like this woman, who are upset over the way Republicans have handled themselves since 9/11.

I, for one, will never forget the lock-step fear-mongering Bush Republicans who couldn't wait to shove 9/11 in the faces of everyone who disagreed with them on anything. The ones who related every disparaging remark about their administration to 'weakening America' and helping the 'terrorists'. The ones who fucked the country over and blame the non-believers for their own incompetence. The one who blamed the press for reporting the truth instead of doing anything to make the truth a better story. The ones who force an apology out of any Democrat brave enough to debate what's going on, then blame them for creating the rift in world opinion. The ones who realized they could play off a tragic event and convince Americans of anything by waving the flag in their face and over their eyes. The ones who equate not following their radical agenda to being un-American, and the ones who bullied their way into the war with Iraq, and the ones who fanned the flames of anger and division, who told the seething masses that the Democrats were helping the terrorists by... being Democrats. Even more than 9/11, I'll remember the party that shamelessly, recklessly, ignorantly divided the country to grab the majority while they were angry and afraid.

They didn't understand 9/11, they understood only opportunity and fear, and it will bring them down.

That rant was longer than i meant it to be, but the woman who spoke out and the people in this organization are completely right. Rove, Bush, and the Bush Republicans have been playing out of bounds for 4 years now, and the country is starting to realize it.

(edit: by "this woman" I was thinking of Kristen Breitweiser, the woman who lost her husband and the focus of another thread on a similar topic)
