Conservative Christians and the U.S. military
"You see it on bumper stickers, church signs, and the ubiquitous yellow ribbons – God Bless Our Troops. You hear it prayed from the pulpit and the pew – God Bless Our Troops. You hear it uttered by Evangelicals, Catholics, and nominal Christians – God Bless Our Troops.

Why should He?"

No surprise there.

2. 'Cuz our troops are . . . better than their troops.
I don't suppose some Muslim mullah is saying the same thing over in Iraq? It's such a meaningless, trite nonsensical phrase.

3. Anyone know if conservative Christians are providing their fair share of
cannon fodder for the pre-emptive war(s) they support? If not, they are one humongous group of reichous hypocrites.

4. When one says "God bless our troops", are they trying to tell God
what to do? Doesn't God bless whomsoever God wants to bless?

5. Unless,
God is so weak that he actually needs our help (prayers) to do his job. This is the theme of those inisipid "Left Behind" books by LaHey.

9. Read one yourself.
If you can stomach it. The one I read was all about how Christians had to pray really hard so that God's angels could break through this barrier that surrounds Earth (Earth is Satan's home, having been thrown down from Heaven.)

I swear.

8. True story. I once got a 3 page email (I printed it out - morbid

curiosity) from a "spouse leader" on how Jesus would make my life happier while my husband was deployed (Iraq) I politely thanked her for her concern and hoped that would be the end of it. Alas...as it always is with these types...

She and I got into it over prayer at deployment meetings. I said if she allowed Christian prayers, I was inviting the Wiccans to pray at the next meeting. Bottomline...no one prayed.

Her husband happened to be my husband's superior and that person would hound my husband about Jesus....that is until my husband started laughing at Bush and his "crusade" (Iraq) and he would tell this man that "Allah loves you, too" whenever he was told "Jesus loves you"....my husband made that man so mad he eventually stopped speaking to my husband directly and only spoke to him through a third party.

But this couple was all about the "God on our side" "We'll win because God wants us to win" mentality. It was sickening.. the bigotry and hate involved in such thinking...not to mention the arrogance.

Anyway, neither my husband nor I talked about the problems we were having with either spouse until after he got back home from Iraq...then we died laughing about how we each had the holy roller couple wanting to save us...

10. They're hijacking the military the way they hijacked...
what christianity is supposed to be about. Sometimes I really believe that. It's a disgusting mixture.
