Long & well-written floor statement on Rove, but NO time for DSM?
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 06:41 PM by AngryWhiteLiberal
Someone PLEASE tell me why Kerry has the time to formulate a wonderful and stinging rebuke of Rove's comments and deliver it on the Senate floor today, but he's just sending a letter around on the DSM?? Couldn't Kerry have put a plug in for the DSM and his "outrage" in the course of his speedy Rove floor statement?

Look...I know lots will view this post as "flame bait" or the like, but I'm REALLY INTERESTED in trying to figure out the motivation/tactics of our esteemed Dem Senator. We have Rove "on the ropes," so why not land a one-two punch combination and put the WH on the defense with the DSM??

I just don't get it. Do our Democratic Senators have access to polling data indicating that the DSM is a losing issue or something?

1. I would only say that
the DSM is long term and will be there like a festering sore. Rove's comments are only this news cycle.

2. That may be true, but it will only be longterm if IT IS MENTIONED OFTEN.
Doesn't being a "longterm issue" depend upon our side and OUR LEADERS mentioning if often and keeping it in the news cycle?

3. Yes but
Our leaders need those of us down here in the trenches to keep the issue alive. The issue would have never made the MSM had DU and the left wing blogs not tackled it and stayed on it like a dog on a bone. We have to keep it going and empower our leaders to champion the issue.

Now our leaders have the ability to dig further (like Conyers' trip to the UK) and find more. We here at DU, as well as Kos, Raw Story, et al have to harp on it and not let it die. the DSM came up from the grassroots and blogs into the MSM.

Power comes from the bottom up. Not from the top down. If a leader has no grassroots support, he has no power.

4. Any news on Conyer's trip to England? I've heard of it, but no specifics.
If you have links to what's become of his visit, I would appreciate seeing them.

Thanks.

6. I saw that...unfortunately. Wolfie asks, but fails to follow-up...
Wolfie only goes into attack mode when interviewing Dems.

Tangentially, did anyone see Anderson Cooper tear the Major of Philadelphia, MS. a new asshole? He literally came right up to border of calling the major a dumbass, and I swear he was giving the guy the finger at one point during the interview. It was really something to see.

7. Actually, Kerry has 2 closed door meetings on DSM with the Intel Committee
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 07:38 PM by blm
about an official investigation into DSM. If you don't like the use of proper channels, then work to change the rules and the protocol.

Did you complain that Conyers letter was taking too long to present to Bush? It seems he had his letter passing around Congress for a few weeks and we all supported him every step of the way.

Have you contacted other senators about signing on to an investigation? Kerry has, it's not easy to get senators to sign onto investigations and he could use the same pressure for senators to sign that we gave to congress.

Interesting that you only post dump on Kerry threads, whenever you do post.

Hard not to notice. Especially since he's always your main target.

8. Jesus...I'm just wondering what going on. Tissue paper Kerry apologist.
If it was a truly a "closed door" meeting, how do we even know that it was discussed? Do you have a copy of a Kerry press release stating that he brought it up or is this just wishful thinking?

10. Logical deduction. If you READ the little articles you use to bash Kerry
you would know that he was taking the letter to the committee.

He needed another signer FROM the committee. He got one...don't know who, but I would guess its Corzine, since he was the only other senator to bring DSM up on tv.

The Intel meetings then showed up on the senate schedule. closed door...2 days... 2 meetings.

Your consistently insulting tone is......

9. Lot's of political grandstanding going on.
The media loves it, and the politicians are having a great time acting like adolescents while avoiding doing anything meaningful.

12. So, Rove's outburst was a distraction ploy from what? DSM? Rummy?
Rove's statement was clearly a deliberate attempt to change the subject, but from what? And, are we falling right into his trap by going after him now (like Kerry did today) and NOT pursuing more forcefully the DSM?
