Further to my previous post about the new color guard at the White House that dips the American flag, along with the flag of whatever foreign national he's appearing with as Bush struts through a corridor to the elevated podiums...I have some new information.
First of all, dipping the flag is not only discouraged, but it's apparently against the law.
4 U.S. Code Chapter 1, Sec. 8.: Respect for flag - "No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing."I've searched every piece of video I can find online to capture the corridor flag dipping, but all of the US media sources begin their footage past this stage when Bush and Blair step up to the podiums. I know he's done it at least one further time - it might have been with the Vietnamese Prime Minister - but I figured there would be more available footage of the Blair visit.
I found some success at BBC. It also begins at the podiums, but early enough so you can see - in a very brief glimpse - the flags returning to an upright position after their dips, including the American flag.
You can find the footage here, at the "Bush Blair Statement" video link.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4071504.stmThey sure are worried about making new flag laws for us simple folk - perhaps they should worry about our little monarch enforcing the flag laws that already exist! This is rank hypocrisy given their zeal to begin amending the constitution to insert laws about how to handle an American flag. Demand that Bush enforce his own ninny laws before he starts berating US!
