SHIT!!!! On the HOUSE FLOOR...Repuke, Ted Poe talking about the SC ruling |
|
yesterday and how baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad the Supreme Court is. Of course, the repukes will let it be known it was the more LIBERAL-MINDED SC justices who made that ruling! This is going to hurt us and hurt us BAD. This affects EVERYONE who owns a home. How the hell do we argue this one????? It will be a HUGE campaign issue in 2006.

1. How do we neutralize this? |
|
Repudiate the 5 SCTOUS judges who don't understand the difference between public use and private use.

I was thinking about this yesterday, Frame it with the Republican controlled Supreme Court. Democrats should go full out on connecting the SC with the Neocons in Washington. From decisions concerning Cheney, civil rights and so forth. Now the Neocon controlled SC wants to take your home away. Avoid using the word Republican, as this affects them as well. Connect Bush, Cheney, Rove and the rest with corruption in the SC.

3. It was not a "liberal" ruling... |
|
It was a "capitalist" ruling over the rights of the people. The Supreme Court is not omnipotent.

But the Justices that ruled in favor are considered to be "Liberal", and that's all that matters to those on the right

we can be equally outraged by the ruling and suggest it has nothing to do with liberal ruling
we dont have to justify, validate or make excuses for it

17. wouldnt it be grand and an excellent lesson for nation |
|
and lesson for our politicians. for the left, in truth and wanting the best.......say. we oppose this. dont give it to us. and come up with something if they can to challenge this.
shut everyone up real fast. and something we can use in 2006 during campaign that will paint a good lite, not a bad. and it will be honest. and it will be best for the people not corporation. our liberal politicians have not backed this, from what i have heard. so....i want to hear, do they back it. is it a liberal policy.

republican appointees. On another note, it seems this ruling is not really about eminent domain but states and local rights.

That's why it is necessary to have justices who understand how the Consitutuion effects regular people and who will not allow out of town corporate profits to be put ahead of the rights of residents.

12. It was a state's rights/local government decision |
|
Both conservatives and liberals are completely misreading this ruling- it essentially concedes that local government and control are what best determine local interests- the Feds were removed from the equation. If you have a problem with your local govt. seizing property for private developments (which BTW have an ULTIMATE public benefit) then elect them the hell out of office. The scaremongers would have it that WalMart and all kinds of evil guys are going to now do everything they want whenever and wherever they want. That is simply not true. ED is not so easily enacted because there are local repercussions to unpopular decisions.

14. "This affects EVERYONE who owns a home." |
|
Or a small business, farm or undeveloped land.
There is some proposed development in Cleveland for the "flats", the tavern district. Basically, the local taverns and nightclubs are being bought by some huge, out of town developer for what amounts to a strip mall for bars. The Circus is a stip club that has been there for decades and is actually profitable and the owner won't sell. An interview with the developer revealed that they intend to use emminent domain to force a sale. These development-crazy asshole politicians are all for it. What really hurts about being sold out is how little our rights are worth to politicians? This developer will make millions, yet the kick-backs to politicians cannot be very much.

If we come out and publicly denounce the ruling before they get the ball rolling, what can they beat us up with? Not much. I don't think they are going to pull much bullshit over this, I really don't. In a way I almost hope they do. Yea, some people on "our side" pulled a ruling out that was bad, but if we start going head to head about the "issues" of which party has a record of corporate interests over human interests we would knock them out. Cold. They don't want this battle, but if they are dumb enough to try it, let them. This one they cannot win.

Just from Poe's remark on the House floor tells me this is where they're headed. I do hope our Dems denounce this and denounce it LOUDLY.

If they open up this can of worms they're not very bright. Republicans have no interest, but corporate interest. I don't like this ruling, though it isn't as bad as it sounds. But that isn't the point....Start "really" examining the spending bills, the legislation that they have drafted almost everything they touch has a huge corporate interest tied in. (Energy bill is the most recent and blatant)We all know that the energy bill will do nothing about the price of gas, but the general population does not. It's a huge corporate circle jerk, pure and simple. We need to drive these simple points home. Over and over again, until it sinks in. It's all about screw the little guy. We need to be driving that point home hard and fast. Republicans are the corporate interest party, Dems are the human interest party, period. It needs to be our mantra.

for example, the refineries. we want them to give revenue to community. you voted it down. if corporations were to be made to pay community, again..........then community wouldnt have to do this shit.
win win
edit: wed senate was throwing out a lot of amendments for oil co to contribute to its community. i believe repugs shut it down

a ELITIST if you believe the word of the SCOTUS is supreme. Do you understand this term or any other terms and what they engender? I don't know and don't really care what kind of people they are. The bottom line is SCOTUS is a instrument of the state. They have came a knockin and now it's no joke anymore.
The Courts and in essence the government now asserts it is more important than the individual. They have put the cart before horse with this decision. This decision has nothing to do with what side of the aisle you on, it has to do with seizing power they were never given.
I would say the Republicans can only really blame Democrats if they, the Republicans, own up to rest of the effed up mess that our US government, otherwise STFU
