A Call From the Other Side... |
|
MY daughter got a call inviting her to a black tie dinner to discuss tax burdens for small businesses, as she is a small business owner. She tried to explain that she wasn't interested in attending such a dinner, having no idea of the sponsors. On the third such call, the lady explained the importance of this event and that there was a minimal charge of $500 that could be broken out in monthly fees to help with the financial obligation. After much conversation, it became evident that this was a Republican fundraiser. My daughter's final words were "I'm a Democrat" after which the lady hung up.
Do Republicans ever meet and discuss anything but personal benefit? It's easy, after the conversation to think of the things that should have been asked. Here are my questions:
Do they every meet and talk about their neighbors?
The Viet Nam veteran on the street corner?
The uninsured child?
The elderly and those adults whose pensions have disappeared?
The neighbor whose job was outsourced or just plain went away?
The mentally retarded?
Uninsured adults needing medical treatment?
The homeless individuals and families?
The child who has been raped and is pregnant by a family member?
The disproportionate ethnic background of the prison population?
This list goes on and on, but it becomes more apparent to me everyday the difference in the topics at political meetings.

named one of America's Top Business Leaders... He could go to Washington to claim his award if only he would send some money to the GOP.

not for business leaders, but something like that (I had recently founded a not for profit org). They left a message - a congressional office in Va. Called them back - learned what it was about - and laughed "with" them (at them) on the phone. All about the money - and playing to greedy people's egos.
Remember the time(s) when their "top leaders" (people touting this "award") were arrested as pedofiles (two seperate cases)... or the top repub leader who was arrested for selling drug paraphanalia via the internet?

Do they every meet and talk about their neighbors? - "Not my problem...unless they're gay, in which case I don't wan their kind here!" The Viet Nam veteran on the street corner? - "It's his own fault he's this way" The uninsured child? - "Not my problem" The elderly and those adults whose pensions have disappeared? - "They can always work at Wal-Mart" The neighbor whose job was outsourced or just plain went away? - "He can always work at Wal-Mart" The mentally retarded? - "Not my problem" Uninsured adults needing medical treatment? - "It's their own fault they're this way" The homeless individuals and families? - "It's their own fault they're this way" The child who has been raped and is pregnant by a family member? - "We've got to preserve the sanctity of life!" The disproportionate ethnic background of the prison population? - "It's their own fault, you know. Those kind of people are predispositioned to break the law. It's in their 'culture'" (I actually had a relative say this to me.)
While they usually won't discuss these kinds of things at their political meetings, anything they do discuss is done with a callous, hate-radio enhanced arrogance.
