I continue to ponder the workings of DU and have a personal question.
Some posts go like gangbusters, with each new response they to to the top of their respective forums. When interest wanes, they fall off the forum's first page and get less attention. Fine, that is the way Elad's software works, it is democratic and I have no problem with that.
But a couple months back, the admins introduced the GREATEST page feature, where we peer nominate, first by 2 votes, now by 3, those posts which we think deserve greater attention. Whatever the source of the post, all with 3 votes get copied to the GREATEST page.
Now the question. I can cite many examples but will use this
as this is current -
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1880518How can a post that was going like gangbusters and has 6 votes not get any responses for over 8 hours? It appears that when a post is not on the front page of a forum, it does not get reads AND people, IN GENERAL, are not reading the GREATEST page.
A few weeks back I made a similar post and found that many were unaware of the GREATEST page. What can we do to encourage more to occasionally visit the GREATEST page?
