Tonight I witness contrast between the BBC and Lou Dobbs |
|
So I'm in this hotel room in Nashville to work on a job.
I get back to the room, kick off my shoes, turn on the TV.
I find the BBC world news on PBS. Great. I haven't seen any news all day long.
The BBC report is about the UN, and Bush's speech, and Kofi Annan.
The report is deadly for Bush. It showed how his speech fell upon complete stony silence from the people there. Then they talked of the world response to Bush's speech. Then they discussed Kofi Anna's speech.
It was good to see. Very professional, thorough, understated job, as they always do.
So I switch channels to see what else is on. And there's Lou Dobbs.
Now, I never watch Lou Dobbs. But tonight he started talking about the UN. And his report was this:
There's a poll that came out about the UN that is a complete LIE! It's an outrage! The poll was conducted by an organization whose job it is to support the activities of the UN! And what this poll said was this:
82% of Americans say we should support the UN.
This is a LIE! The truth is that other polls have said other things!
He then cuts to a talking head from the HERITAGE FOUNDATION (Oh my god, the fucking HERITAGE FOUNDATION) who is saying that the American people are actually really fed up with the UN! They don't trust the UN!
Okay, it takes a good long while for any actual support to come out. But finally they say there have been some gallup polls that say basically that something like 60% of Americans think that the UN isn't really helping the US out very well.
So this is why the other poll is a complete lie! It's outrageous! There should be some credibility, some accountability for these horrible lies!
It was just so galling to watch this. I mean, the contrast between this propagandistic CRAP and the BBC just was so fucking OBVIOUS.
Lou Dobbs, may you rot in hell. Because someone is paying you. That's right. Someone is paying you to say this shit. If the CIA can pay mullahs in the middle east to pretend to be moderate muslims, you can BET YOUR FAT ASS that they're paying people HERE to spout the administration's line.
There. I feel better now.

2. Dobbs couldn't find anything positive to say about Bush's speech |
|
So he decided to change the subject.

3. 'Someone' is paying him? |
|
um, yep. all the cable subscribers. Don't want to hear the tripe from Rush wannabees?
pull the cable
Then the corparations get the message. otherwise, you are part of the problem. sorry, not what you wanted to hear, but damn, truth hurts sometimes. I'm not trying to be personal here, you are in a hotel and have cable, may not at home. but one could also not pay for the cable in a room service for the same reasons.

I think it's one of those "looks like shit, smells like shit, tastes like shit" things.
Someone is paying him. Why else would anyone go to the trouble to spew propaganda unless someone was giving him money and saying "in exchange for this money, your JOB is to take every chance you have to mislead the American people."
And yes, I'm in a hotel room and yes, I did turn off the TV. Where did I go? Right here!

9. You remember that too, huh? |

Doesn't seem that long ago, does it, that some folks were all but endorsing ol' Lou as a potential prexy contender?

The BBC News comes on at the same time Lou Dobbs does on my TV system. I of course watch the BBC. It's sometimes the only "fair and balanced" news we get.

11. Lou is losing it if he went that far. |
|
He definitely has lost crediblity as an objective commentator. I don't see how he can support Bush, any more, if he really is concerned about the sloughing off of white collar jobs.
