Clark didn't grow up on Park Avenue like Dean.
Clark grew up the poorest kid in the richest neighborhood in Little Rock. He ended becoming an honor student and the number one swimmer in his high school team. He went on to turn down several ivy league schools and decided to go to West Point. He ended up going to Oxford for graduate school, and he is a Rhode Scholar.

He had to actually WORK to get where he is, and he didn't go skiing and get wasted every day while young american kids were dying in some chickenshit southeast asian country.

Just fighting fire with fire....

1. IMO, It's Better to Post About Clark's Achievements
Without making reference to other candidates in a negative light, IMO.

I admire and respect how Clark is a self-made man. I wish people would give him more credit than they do, for it.

2. Agreed.
Don't like the headline or the direct attacks on Dean. Just bound to start another useless flame war among ppl who could very well be the staunchest of allies in 6-9 months.

8. I agree
of all the pairings that have been floated around, a Dean-Clark or Clark-Dean ticket seems very well recieved. Plus, Dean and Clark talked to eachother quite a bit over the summer and genuinely seem to like eachother. Plus, they compliment eachother very well!

28. I think Clark/Dean would be good ticket
But whoever the nominee, I hope they find a place for Clark in the administration. We can't afford to waste such a brilliant analytical liberal mind.

3. and Dean stopped drinking
became a doctor, moved to a poor state, bought a modest home and has dedicated his life to public service as a doctor and a politician.

Why does it matter that Dean was "unlucky" enough to have been born with rich parents?

4. Um....
Hate to say it, but FDR and JFK were layabout rich boys.
Didn't stop them from doing great things for working Americans.
As my mom once said at a Reich for Governor rally, trying to
say why women should vote for Reich rather than a female candidate:
"It's not the gender, it's the agenda."

If Clark has a plaform that aims to help out working class kids,
bene. If he doesn't, too bad. All in all, it doesn't mean a whole lot.

10. Sorry, but JFK wasn't a "layabout rich boy"
JFK suffered from a variety of ailments, some life-threatening, and spent most of his life in considerable pain. Like Dean, JFK should have been excluded from the military on medical grounds, but not serving was never an option for Joe Kennedy's son. So he served, with distinction. Sorry, but just because Kennedy was young, rich and handsome doesn't mean he led an easy life. He just worked incredibly hard to make it look that way.

5. Non-genetic maggot speciation

Changes in aromatic preferences can cause "sympatric speciation" among maggots -- a form of speciation that is not really genetic (the two species can still interbreed), but rather circumstantial: genetic differences contained in each species causes it to behave in a way that ensures it will never get it on with the other species.

7. Dean has a positive agenda for working people
Yes it helps that Clark is of a modest background, but in the end its the agenda and his campaign skills that matter.

If you are going to post something bigoted, you might as well go all the way!

:puke:

I just as soon have someone that dedicated his life to heal people than one whose career was to terminate human life, including that of innocent civilians.

17. I am really impressed by both of these guys achievements IG
Between 8 and 12 years of college commitment to become a doctor boggles my mind when I think about it sometimes. The person that can do that has shown they are dedicated to me. I couldn't do it.

34. With one notable exception
all the Democratic candidates are head and shoulders over Bush, and even the ones that were born with a silver spoon in their mouths, worked hard to where they are today.

16. Please, let's not bash other candidates
unless they REALLY deserve it. Dean doesn't. He hasn't gone nasty or negative on Clark.

There are two ways to promote your candidate. Point out ways in which he is the best, or show how others are worse than s/he is. Let's stick to the first.

It's enough to point out Clark's poor childhood and how he rose and succeeded. People will get the story from that. Anything else is flamebait.

And, after all, once we win the primaries, we need those well-organized political-junkie Deanies on OUR side, remember? :)

24. Dean worked hard to get where he is.
I've never been to West Point, but medical school and residency is probably on about the same level. Less physical exertion, but none of the sense of teamwork which mitigates the stresses of military training.

FDR, Teddy Roosevelt, and JFK were born into wealth, but turned out to be some of the great progressives of the last century.

FDR was born into the lap of luxury, and he was one of our greatest Presidents. Didn't affect his progressiveness one bit.

You mean, he couldn't sail a yacht on Lake Maumelle like the other kids in the neighborhood?

His mother got remarried to a retired banker. They were living in an exclusive neighborhood. His family was not poor, nor anywhere close.

30. I Have Respect For People Like JFK and Kerry
That are born with a silver spoon in mouth, but still believe in things like honor, duty, and sacrifice. Compare with Dubya, who has lived his existence riding on the coattails of his father - and not even bothering to show up for his last year of draft-dodging National Guard service.

I'm not sure what path Howard Brush Dean III took, but I'm sure it was honorable as well.
