This story/incident is not about women in the military. These women have a right to be soldiers. This is about the military being properly prepared to go to war. Just a few days ago a Marine Corps general went before congress to tell the Congresspeople that there were Marines that still were fighting without the proper equipment. This general was supposed to tell Congress that the Marines did not have armored vehicles, guns, body armor, and other things. Since these women were not combat soldiers it is possible that they did not have good body armor in that when the body armor issue first came about it was mentioned that the active duty soldiers were getting the first shot at body armor. So there are at least three things to find out about that this incident. First, were these Marines active duty or reserve? Second, did these soldiers have the proper body armor? Third, it should be asked if these women were riding in a properly armored vehicle? So the real issue in this incident is that these soldiers may have died because they were sent to war without the proper equipment.

1. Yeah, but sexists will sure play it up |

as an excuse to keep women out of the military.
Don't know how much of this is true, but I was told that since women "can't" be frontline troops, they're used for support roles. Since the support troops are the big targets for either guerilla warfare tactics or full fledged warfare like had been planned for a possible war with the Soviet Union, women troops were actually put more in harm's way.

There is no front line. That's what the point should be. All are at risk no matter where they are. The US avoided situations like these as much as possible because they knew that our military was in no way prepared for a guerrilla war nor would ever be since it involved putting them in a foreign place they were not familiar with.
I remember watching MSNBC not long after the troops got to Iraq. A tank was going after some fighters and it went into a boxed in area where it would have difficult maneuvering. The military commentator about lost the ability to speak. He did say the tank should not have been where it was because it was vulnerable to a brutal attack.
How many more ways can this administration neglect, abuse and murder our soldiers?

Bush and the members of his administration have no grasp of reality. They have lived in a total fantasy world about this war. I honestly believe that they thought that once they removed Saddam Hussein from power the war would be over. The fact that Bush and administration officials are unwilling to admit that they have made mistakes are only making this disaster worse. We need leaders who are willing to examine this war realistically.

2. I agree with you but i have a question |
|
If they ban women from the front line - hell I hope they ban everyone from the front line - wont that make the possibilty of a draft all the more real? Just wondering.

3. No, the issue is HYPOCRITES |
|
Didn't congress just try to pass a bill preventing women from being on the front lines? Front lines? What the hell is a front line in Iraq? When you are talking about guerrilla warfare, the entire COUNTRY is a front line.
I believe women should be able to serve if that is their choice. But don't be HYPOCRITICAL about it and say you are trying to protect women. All our troops, men and women, are sitting ducks there no matter where they are.
