Speech notes for Alexa McDonough, MPLeader of Canada’s NDPTo the Annual Convention of the British Columbia Federation of Labour
<Fourteen months ago, we called for government leadership in standing againstthe religious bigotry and racist backlash, already building against CanadianArabs, Canadian Muslims and other visible minorities.
What did we get from the Liberals?
Institutionalized racial profiling on our border with the U.S and a Prime Ministerwho said, when asked to stand up for Canadian immigrants and visibleminorities, and I quote, “it’s not my problem”!

Chretien said that the treatment of landed immigrants (non-citizen residents) at US border crosings was not the Canadian government's problem as these people do not hold Canadian passports. The NDP has either made a blunder here (likely) or is lying. http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/PEstory/TGAM/20021106/UBORDN/national/national/national_temp/4/4/22/">full details
