Bad news for psychedelic fungi fans. There are just 24 more shopping days before magic mushrooms are declared illegal - and that's official.

Ignoring pleas from mushroom retailers and consumers, the government yesterday announced that clause 21 of the Drugs Act 2005, reclassifying psilocybe mushrooms as a class A drug alongside heroin and crack cocaine, will come into force on July 18.

From that date, importation, possession or sale of magic mushrooms will be punishable by a life sentence, effectively outlawing sales via market stalls, head shops and the internet.

Hello, can we say Draco? That is so over-the-top awful. I was amazed when a Knoxvillian got 10 years for possession/distribution, but this is so far beyond what is just or right or proper that it boggles the fucking mind.

Everyone should try mushrooms at least once or twice. Okay, three times...

5. 'shrooms can be fun!

I'm not gonna say everyone should try them, but they are a trip! :) They're not as intense as LSD, and unlike peyote, you don't throw up after consuming them. I've known people who have had unpleasant experiences with acid, but not with mushrooms or peyote.

Naturally, I don't do this stuff anymore.

Who grew them once. God, what a lot of hard work. He said it was like taking a 3-hour college course learning how to grow those babies. He never did it again because he realized he was too lazy to grow them. He had a $200 grow setup that was used only once. Okay, twice.

To this day, he can tell you the precise humidity and temperature of a given room, and his closets are full of mysterious implements of plastic and glass.
