Its the 21st century, shouldn't I have my own jetpack?
There have always been two visions of the future in Sci Fi, the "everything is rosy but we still have human foibles" kind and the "everything devolves into shit" kind.

We still use fossil fuels, we still horde money and food, we still hate those different from us. The BFEE has us heading toward a "bLaderunner" "Clockwork Orange" future. Is that what any of us had in mind? Where is the progress? Conservatives are anti progress so what did we expect?

I would say that they are stuck in the past but that would imply they read history. They are stuck in the now. There is no thought of the future at all, no invvestment, no building new alliances, no saving or planning. Just one day at a time, reaction to current events rediculousness.

I would bet that most people would prefer the life they saw in the Jetsons to the one shown in Logan's Run or Soylent Green yet look what we have become....

We are not on our way to the Federation of Planets or a search for the monolith on Jupitor. We are moving backwards to a time when the rich lived in walled estates and sent serfs to do their bidding.

Every election needs to be two competing visions of the future. If a Democratic candidate can't tell you what America will look like twenty years from now then keep looking till you find someone that can.

2. everyone in flying carrs, ala The Jetsons, Will NEVER Happen-
people have too much trouble and too many accidents just dealing with 2-dimensional navigation- adding a third would be...scary as shit.

7. You hit the nail right on the head. What kind of world do we want to
leave our children? Utopia or Oblivion. It's up to us.

8. You're right
Also, where's my hover car. For that matter where's my post apocalyptic wasteland with horrifying mutants. I've been really looking forward to both, or in there absence Death Race 2000. :headbang:
