1. Nice place.
The state government there made a point of having a major event in Melbourne every weekend.

I live up in Queensland, but I miss my business trips to Melbourne. It's where I'd live if my own town sucked.

2. Born there.....January gets.......
.....a bit hot (up to 40c sometimes).

It's an easy city to find your way around in, and public transport isn't bad.

6. Melbourne house prices.....
start at around $AU200k (Like the US prices have been rising for the past couple of years).

Mortgage rates are about 6.5%.

9. I love Melbourne
It is like a blend of San Diego, San Francisco, and some provincial cities in France. Depending on where you're from, I think you'll find the public transportation superior. It is expensive relative to pay rates, like the biggest cities in the US. If you like tennis, be sure to get Australian Open tennis tickets in January--it's the most fan friendly major tennis event there is.

10. ps you might want to get "Let's Go Australia"
the "Let's Go" travel books are written by college students who have traveled extensively. They find all the great places to visit or eat that are not too expensive and have lots of tips for finding laundromats, getting money changed, etc., all the details you need if you have never been to the city or country.
