India college says mini skirt ban helps stop rape
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 03:25 AM by JI7
again, blaming the victim.

<An Indian university plans to ban women from wearing mini skirts, tight tops and shorts, saying this will help prevent rape.

Students have criticised the proposal saying it is not the answer to preventing rape.

"We are not children who should be told what we can and cannot wear," said a 19-year-old management studies student, Alka Mehta. "Rape is not related to what the victim wears but what is in the mind of the rapist."

The university says the proposals could be implemented before the end of the year.

However, university officials say they will not throw out students who do not stick to the dress code, but gently advise them to wear "something more presentable".>

1. Of course.
You should all wear what this man does:

Don't you know how to follow by good example? Nice set of ties with jesus on them, a bible in hand, the many graceties of our lord Tom DeLay.

2. Reminds me of that judge in Italy...
...who ruled that any woman wearing tight jeans couldn't be taken against her will.

As for the matter, why not make every potential 'rapist' wear blinders? So as not to be tempted.

Yeesh. I note how all the 'wear something presentables' in that argument were geared towards the women.

Indeed, blaming the victim. How very sad. I see this as little different than someone who might say, "How can you blame me?! His wallet / her purse looked over-full and I simply could not help myself! It's their fault for having so much money!"

3. A girl in a mini-skirt is not asking to be raped (as a student once
told me in a sexual assault prevention discussion) any more than a person crossing a street is asking to get hit by a car. There is a complete disconnect from reality when it comes to rape in this country (and, apparently the world) but what do you expect when it's still a man's world?

4. Yeah sure, just about every rape victim is wearing something provocative.
That 70 year old woman was so provocative the teenager just had to rape her. That woman who was covered in sweat after exercising was just sooo attractive the rapist had to get her. The woman in a sweat suit (long sleeve sweat shirt and baggy pants) was just asking for it. Come on, if what women wore really mattered all those actresses on the red carpet would be raped.

5. In Saudi I was told it was a fact that women who drove had no morals
Which all prove to me that men are writing all this stuff. If their reason can be right so can mine. But then I am a women.
