David Grohl of the Foo Fighters: “In Your Honor” a Tribute to John Kerry
Excerpt from Q & A: Dave Grohl
By: Andrew Beaujon
June 24, 2005
I've read that the title of your new album is a tribute to John Kerry.
A few of the songs were written when I came home from the campaign trail. Every day, before he got up to speak, I'd go play acoustic music. And the audiences weren't Foo Fighters audiences. The front row was World War II veterans and teacher's unions and blue-collar workers. I came back from that so inspired by the people and the real emotion and the feeling of a small community all coming together for an honorable reason. That's where the title came from.

Lyrics:

Can you hear me
Hear me screamin'
Breaking in the muted skies
This thunder heart
Like bombs beating
Echoing a thousand miles

Mine is yours and yours is mine
There is no divide
In your honor
I would die tonight

Mine is yours and yours is mine
I will sacrifice
In your honor
I would die tonight
For you to feel alive

Can you feel me
Feel me breathing
One last breathe before I close my eyes
This suffering
For receiving
Deliver me into the other side

For you to feel alive
For you to feel alive
For you to feel alive

2. Grohl saw what news media refused to report....the REAL, everyday people
who supported John Kerry.

The media ignored these millions of hardworking, simple American citizens and dishonored them because they didn't fit the campaign storyline that Rove gave them.

3. What is with pukes using music from artists
that want nothing to do with them?

Good for Grohl. I'll be pickting this album up for sure.

5. Grohl Rocks
literally and figuratively. It seems like "Times Like These" has entered into a very select group of great songs appropriated by Republicans who have no real fucking idea what they are about - along with "Born in the USA" and "If I had a Hammer" ( sung at a Delay tribute ). Good going, Dave, you're in great company with Springsteen and the remarkable Pete Seeger. What did Guthrie have on his guitar? "This guitar kills fascism."

7. thanks for the right quote.
Incidentally, if the 101st Fighting Keyboarders need a song, they can always appropriate Phil Och's "I Ain't Marching Anymore," not that they ever did.
